The Mercedes S 580 e 4MATIC is now available for order: the segment's first plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive. What exactly is his drive?

Thanks to the high power of the electric unit - 110 kW / 150 hp. – and an electric range of more than 100 km (WLTP cycle) The Mercedes-Benz S 580 e 4MATIC can travel without the use of a combustion engine in many situations. The hybrid powertrain is based on the M 6 inline 256-cylinder engine with 270 kW/367 hp, which belongs to the current generation of Mercedes engines.

The electric motor's peak torque of 440 Nm is available almost from the start, providing high starting performance and facilitating dynamic acceleration. The maximum speed in ELECTRIC mode is 140 km/h. The high-voltage battery is now even better integrated into the car's design than on its predecessor: instead of a step, the trunk has an opening for transporting long items.

11 kW AC on-board charger (three-phase) included as standard. Also available is a 60kW DC charger for fast DC charging. As a result, a discharged battery can be fully charged in about 30 minutes.
