Three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) affect the response of the engine, suspension and steering: Green and Normal are the most suitable for the city, making driving smooth and relaxed, and helping to reduce fuel consumption. Sports are best left to the manageable. Although the MINI John Cooper Works is the heaviest and most extreme version, there is no longer the "bouncing" feel of older models: it is a much more comfortable car. The 2,0-liter turbocharged engine is soft and linear, and allows you to crank in sixth at 60 km / h with gas flow. Summing up: MINI John Cooper Works is also an excellent urban compact car.... Yes and no. The MINI John Cooper Works it must be an extreme, brutal car, especially running on a winding road. Truth in that it is a very fast car, but at the same time it is quite civilized. In "sport" mode, the frame is stretched and the exhaust starts shooting New Year's barrels, but when you get serious, you realize that the JCW is an easy car, for everyone, maybe too much for everyone.

The engine pushes and stalls smoothly at the threshold of 5.000 rpm, along with a good part of your enthusiasm. I don't want to be misunderstood: the MINI John Cooper Works picks up speed with disarming ease, barely noticeable. The sound is also hoarse, masculine, and that's good news. On the other hand, a manual transmission has a lever that is too long and does not want to be harshly manipulated.. The best part is the steering: Behind the round steering wheel is precise, precise and super-direct steering. It's nice to be able to put the car exactly where you want it with just a few degrees of steering, which is arguably the best part of the MINI experience.

The 205mm tires are enough to provide the necessary traction, but in the middle of a corner this "undersized" size gives the little MINI a more agile feel. The rear end in the release is enough to close the trajectory, but not as free as before. You can provoke this at the entrance and in the middle of a turn, without fear of being whirling like crazy tops. Even the "fake differential" must admit that it works well, at least on dry, helping the car stay on track even for a second when exiting tight corners.

To put it simply: The MINI John Cooper Works is fun, with a great soundtrack, and easy to push to the limit for everyone, but it's not the extreme car you'd expect.

It also costs 6.000 euros more than the Cooper S, even though with the same accessories (many of which are standard on JCW) the price difference is reduced to just over 1.500 euros.

But the truth is that MINI John Cooper Works has no real rivals: it is unique, exclusive and outshines larger, more powerful cars in quality.
