Driving the MINI John Cooper Works can be fast and fun, but it costs money.

The MINI John Cooper Works is a whimsical toy: fun, attention to detail and top quality. It's a more mature and finished car, very comfortable and relaxed than the previous JCW board, but it still retains its rebellious soul and exuberant sound. However, the high price brings it into the territory of the sports cars of the C segment. The consumption is not bad.
John Cooper Works, three words that make the little MINI even more special. A more extreme version of the already fast MINI Cooper S has more power, a more extroverted look and more decisive tuning. Plus to everything.
The engine is the same 2,0 liter turbocharged BMW, but the power goes by 192 and 231 resumes, not a little; Standard features include a 17-inch sports suspension (optional on the S), a John Cooper Works aerodynamics package that's a great sight to see, and an electronically controlled differential lock. And if you feel like going overboard, adaptive dampers, 18-inch wheels, Harman Kardon sound system and MINI Connected infotainment system are at your service.

CITY
La MINI John Cooper Works he is very maneuverable in city traffic. Despite its more "pompous" appearance, it remains one of the most compact utilities (its length is only 382 cm), and this really makes it easy to park. The steering and clutch are light, as is the gear lever.... Three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) affect the response of the engine, suspension and steering: Green and Normal are the most suitable for the city, making driving smooth and relaxed, and helping to reduce fuel consumption. Sports are best left to the manageable. Although the MINI John Cooper Works is the heaviest and most extreme version, there is no longer the "bouncing" feel of older models: it is a much more comfortable car. The 2,0-liter turbocharged engine is soft and linear, and allows you to crank in sixth at 60 km / h with gas flow. Summing up: MINI John Cooper Works is also an excellent urban compact car.... Has it become too soft?
IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
Yes and no. The MINI John Cooper Works it must be an extreme, brutal car, especially running on a winding road. Truth in that it is a very fast car, but at the same time it is quite civilized. In "sport" mode, the frame is stretched and the exhaust starts shooting New Year's barrels, but when you get serious, you realize that the JCW is an easy car, for everyone, maybe too much for everyone.
The engine pushes and stalls smoothly at the threshold of 5.000 rpm, along with a good part of your enthusiasm. I don't want to be misunderstood: the MINI John Cooper Works picks up speed with disarming ease, barely noticeable. The sound is also hoarse, masculine, and that's good news. On the other hand, a manual transmission has a lever that is too long and does not want to be harshly manipulated.. The best part is the steering: Behind the round steering wheel is precise, precise and super-direct steering. It's nice to be able to put the car exactly where you want it with just a few degrees of steering, which is arguably the best part of the MINI experience.
The 205mm tires are enough to provide the necessary traction, but in the middle of a corner this "undersized" size gives the little MINI a more agile feel. The rear end in the release is enough to close the trajectory, but not as free as before. You can provoke this at the entrance and in the middle of a turn, without fear of being whirling like crazy tops. Even the "fake differential" must admit that it works well, at least on dry, helping the car stay on track even for a second when exiting tight corners.
To put it simply: The MINI John Cooper Works is fun, with a great soundtrack, and easy to push to the limit for everyone, but it's not the extreme car you'd expect.

The soundproofing work is commendable: wheel rustling and rolling, as well as engine noise, are minimized. Consumption is also good, which at 130 km / h yes stop at around 13 km / l.

If desired, it can also work as a tachometer. Each command is pleasant and durable to the touch, and wherever you put your fingers down, you'll find a soft surface that will keep you satisfied. Such quality is difficult to find even on cars of a higher segment, even well-known brands.
PRICE AND EXPENSES
La MINI John Cooper Works is expensive and understandably so. 31.950 euro for a "toy car" this is a considerable indicator, especially when compared with competitors. It also costs 6.000 euros more than the Cooper S, even though with the same accessories (many of which are standard on JCW) the price difference is reduced to just over 1.500 euros.
But the truth is that MINI John Cooper Works has no real rivals: it is unique, exclusive and outshines larger, more powerful cars in quality.
