Mini Cooper S Convertible

Well, now we have solved this problem as well. The solution sounds like a Mini Cooper S Cabrio and is a great combination of (well, for whom) everyday use, convertible windsurfing, nostalgic travel (racing) times and go-karting. In fact, there are many tasks that a toddler must perform reliably, but he does it well enough.

Let's take turns. Everyday use. Anyone who has looked at the boot volume data on paper - 120 liters with some academic data on a good 600 liters with the roof up, the protection removed and the seats folded down - and saw the size of the boot opening in person will be shaking. their head is important for everyday use. But it needs to be looked at from a different angle.

First, put one suitcase "airplane", a fairly large borscht and an even smaller backpack in the trunk - there is more than enough festive luggage for two. Second, since the rear seats are more than useless for carrying live content (with the exception of a dog or a small child in a car seat), you can safely use them to carry large pieces of luggage - and if you fold the seats down, you're virtually unlimited in height, which is big advantage of convertibles. I still remember vividly leaving the minivan at home in frustration (too many problems with removing the seats and I wasn't sure if I ended up with enough space) and just tossing a fairly large table into the back seats. convertible.

Everything else, except for the fact that visibility sucks (as you'd expect), is on a par with any other car of its size. It sits perfectly, is better than any car of its size, the interior design (and exterior, make no mistake) is such that you will always be happy to get behind the wheel, the ergonomics are excellent, the audio system too. ...

The roof is XNUMX% sealed, there is little noise inside, cooling and ventilation are excellent due to the good climate, and even more beneficial is the fact that the roof or its front can only be partially opened, lower the small rear part of the window and you are already rolling in the sky overhead (but the sun does not burn in it), a light breeze in the cabin, and at the same time you hear everything that happens outside the car.

You can of course (here we are in the second point) press the button above the interior rearview mirror. In fact, you press twice: on the first press, the roof (at any speed) pulls back about half a meter and creates a roof window, and on the second press on it (but, unfortunately, only when the car is completely stopped) it folds behind the rear seats. It's a bit of a hindrance to look back, but it's all the more old-fashioned to look at - and there is still enough space in the trunk for a suitcase and. . You still remember, don't you?

Third part: nostalgia and old racing cars. There is not much to talk about here, enter the tunnel with the roof down, turn the engine seven thousand there so that the compressor barks out of the exhaust and from under the hood, then brake, switch down when adding intermediate gas (yes, the accelerator pedal is attached to the floor of the car excellent for that) the double exhaust pipe burst. ... You can repeat the story on a winding mountain road, preferably right next to a stone wall (for better acoustics). ...

And if I don't know how to do it, leave the lever of the quick and precise (here Mini is nothing short of nostalgic) six-speed transmission alone and let the engine run from the lowest revs with a growl (and again the whistle of the compressor). And again, in low gear, loosen the reins of all 170 horses, and again a small crack from the exhaust. . In short, enjoy the sound and feel. You understand, don't you?

And the last part, the famous karting. I must admit that the car was a little disappointing at first. In the corners, he seemed unsure. However, two things quickly emerged: that the speed was terribly high and that the tires did not fit the rest of the car. The Goodyear Eagles (subtype NCT5) simply cannot match the Potenza or Proxes that would fit on such a vehicle as standard. However, it is true that the Mini does not have a replacement tire, so it needs a flat tire. However, any vulcanizer capable of this will be able to indicate at least three off-road tires that are best suited for this Cooper S Cabrio.

Otherwise, everything is excellent: direct and precise steering, predictable, playful neutral position on the road, high slip limits, excellent brakes. ... DSC is set to work very, very early, but since the Mini is owned by the BMW Group, you can turn it off immediately and completely. Or you slow down a bit and still enjoy it.

The decision is yours. The Mini Cabrio can do both.

evaluation

  • If the Mini is good, then the Mini Cabrio can only be great. And if you ever see a Mini Cabrio driver frowning at the wheel, it's probably simply because he'll have to stop soon.
