One of the divisions of the American automobile manufacturer Chrysler is the Dodge brand, as well as the recently spun off from it into a separate division of RAM. It is worth noting that today they are all part of the Italian concern Fiat. Nevertheless, out of habit, we continue to call these cars American, since their production is still concentrated in the USA, Michigan.

As you know, in the US, despite the growing popularity of hybrids and electric cars, five- and seven-seat minivans are still considered the most popular mode of transport. In today's article on our Vodi.su portal, we will talk about the model line of Dodge minivans.

Dodge grand caravan

This model has been produced since 1983 to this day. Chrysler Voyager and Plymouth Voyager are its analogues, which differ only in nameplates.

A Brief History of the Dodge Caravan:

• until 1995, the company produced a short-base minivan Dodge Caravan;
• in 1995, an elongated version with the prefix Grand appears, both versions are produced in parallel;
• after the update and the release of the fifth generation in 2007, only the Dodge Grand Caravan remains.
• instead of a shortened version, the company begins production of the Dodge Journey crossover, which we will write about below.

Thus, the Dodge Caravan today can only be bought as a used minivan. The Dodge Grand Caravan is considered one of Chrysler's most successful projects, with Chrysler Town & Country 2016 and Chrysler Grand Voyager being its counterparts.

Unfortunately, as representatives of the Vodi.su editorial board were told in the salons of official dealers, at the moment this car is not in stock and its receipt is not expected in the future. All these cars are equipped with a 6-liter 3,6-cylinder Pentastar engine with 283 hp, working in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission. Gasoline consumption is listed in a purely American manner: MPG City / HWY, that is, gallons per mile in the city and on the highway. MPG is 17/25, which, translated into more understandable units of measurement for us - liters per 100 km - is 13 liters in the city and 9 on the highway.

This car can accommodate up to seven people, inside there are three rows of seats. The rear doors slide back. The seats can be easily folded down. Spacious trunk. In a word, for a large family this is the perfect car. Well, if you convert dollars into rubles, then you will have to pay an amount of 1,5 million rubles for it. and higher. Finally, let's say that from 2002 to 2017 inclusive, over 4 million minivans of this brand were sold in the USA, Canada and Mexico alone.

Ram Trucks - RAM ProMaster

RAM is a structural division of Dodge, which until recently specialized exclusively in pickups and light trucks. But after the controlling stake passed to the Italian Fiat, it was decided to expand the lineup.

RAM ProMaster was based on such well-known vans and minibuses in the Russian and European markets as Fiat Doblo, Fiat Ducato and their variations: Citroen Jumper and Peugeot Boxer.

Ram ProMaster City (Fiat Doblo) are mini vans designed specifically for the city, created both in passenger and cargo versions:

• Tradesman Cargo Van - goods van at a price of 23495 USD;
• Tradesman SLT Cargo Van — 25120 u.е.;
• Wagon - 5-seater passenger van for $24595;
• Wagon SLT - an improved version of the 5/7-seater van for 26220 USD.

These vehicles are produced exclusively for the North American markets. It's a bit unusual to see a regular Fiat Doblo with the RAM emblem on the grille. Engineers specifically for the American version installed a 9-speed automatic transmission, slightly changed the exterior, used more durable materials for the body. Also, a special engine is installed here - a 2,4-liter TigerShark (tiger shark), which develops a power of 177 l / s at 6125 rpm.

Dodge journey

This model began to be produced in 2007, when they abandoned the shortened version of the Dodge Grand Caravan. All reference books classify the Dodge Journey as a crossover, although even a cursory glance is enough to guess the Gran Caravan in it.

Unfortunately, this model is not officially sold in the Russian Federation, so prices will also have to be indicated in dollars:

The first three configurations are equipped with a choice of a 2,4-liter 4-cylinder power unit with a capacity of 173 hp, or a 3,6-liter Pentastar engine with 283 horsepower. The cross version is equipped with a more powerful grille and a sporty interior. The GT version is charged, although the engine costs the same as in other trim levels. The only difference is rear wheel drive. In all other modifications, there is a full plug-in drive (FWD & AWD). The car is designed for five people.

As you can see, the range of Dodge minivans is not the widest, but each car is a model of comfort, power and economy.
