Modernization: Conversion of motorcycles and scooters to electrics will soon be allowed

Still not possible, given the regulations, converting thermal imaging cameras into electrical ones will soon be allowed in France. Good news: scooters and motorcycles will suffer too.

While almost all European countries have already passed laws in favor of modernization, France today was an exception. However, the situation will soon change. A draft decree authorizing practice in France has been discussed for months. Submitted as a real specification for a French modification, it has recently been submitted for validation to the European Commission.

« It remains only to wait for the return of the draft decree from Brussels in February 2020 to sign the draft decree, as well as its publication in the Official Gazette. “Summarizes Arno Pigunides, President of AIRe, an association of various players specializing in modernization.

Registered for at least three years

According to the text submitted to the Commission, conversion to electric scooters and motorcycles will be possible for vehicles registered for a period of at least three years.

For cars and trucks, this period has been increased to five years.

Actors already assigned

While many companies specializing in the conversion of four-wheeled vehicles are "launching points" in anticipation of legalization of their activities, others are already positioning themselves in the two-wheeled sector.

According to AIRe, the turnover of this new activity could reach more than one billion euros between 2020 and 2025. Enough to provide refurbishment of 65.000 to 5000 vehicles and create or transform nearly XNUMX direct and indirect jobs.
