The oil change in the Nissan Qashqai J11 and J10 variator is carried out in the same way, since the design of the transmission itself is similar. The sequence of actions at home:

  1. Warm up the vehicle to normal operating temperature. To do this, it is enough, as usual, to drive a little along the street, 10-15 km is enough.
  2. Drive the car into the garage, put it on a viewing hole or on a lift. Stop the engine.
  3. Remove the engine protection.
  4. Start the engine again. Alternately switch the variator lever to all positions with a delay of 5-10 seconds. Then leave the selector in the park (P) position.
  5. Without turning off the engine, check the oil level in the variator (read above how to do this).
  6. Turn off the engine and reinstall the dipstick, but do not snap it into place. This is necessary so that the system is not sealed. By communicating with air, the liquid will drain faster and more efficiently.
  7. Unscrew the drain plug, remembering to place a large container under it. The extraction will be about 6-7 liters, this must be taken into account when choosing an empty container. It is convenient if the volume of oil drained from the box can be measured. Then it will be clear how much new fluid to fill in.
  8. Wait until the oil drains. It usually takes no more than 20 minutes.
  9. At this time, you can begin to replace the filter of the heat exchanger (oil cooler) of the variator. Remove it and, if possible, remove and flush or replace the CVT cooler.
  10. When all the used oil has been poured out, tighten the drain plug.
  11. Remove the transmission pan. It is important to note that it contains a small amount of oil, about 400 ml. Therefore, it must be disposed of very carefully. Otherwise, all the oil will spill out, it may stain your hands and clothes.
  12. The pan must be thoroughly cleaned of thickened residues of old oil. Any cleaning fluid, solvent is useful here. You also need to clean the joints, remove metal chips from two magnets.   13. Replace the coarse filter. Change the pan gasket. Dry the tray and put it back in place. It's screwed up. It is important to note that the threads in them are easily torn, and the cover is deformed when overtightened. Therefore, tighten the deck bolts without applying excessive force.
  14. Replace the copper washer on the drain plug. Put the lid back on and screw it on.
  15. Using a funnel, pour new oil into the CVT through the dipstick hole. Its volume should be equal to the volume of drainage.
  16. After changing the oil, check the level on the dipstick as described above. If it's less than what you need, recharge. Overflow is also undesirable, therefore, if the level is exceeded, it is necessary to pump out the excess with a syringe with a rubber tube.

The described method allows you to partially replace the oil in the variator. A complete replacement is carried out by the substitution method, when the old oil is replaced with a new one. To do this, you can fork out for an additional volume of oil and repeat the procedure. It is best to do this 2-3 days after you have driven the car in the usual way. However, the regulations establish that for the normal operation of the variator, a partial replacement is sufficient, in which 60-70% of the fluid changes. It is important to change all these filters at the same time, clean the tray and magnets. If this is not done, the effectiveness of the new oil and the entire replacement procedure will decrease.
