Mopeds - permits, registration, cost

Why are mopeds still so popular? They are relatively cheap, often do not require complex training procedures (driving licenses), and mastering the car itself is not so difficult. A moped does not develop breakneck speeds, which is why it is considered a safe two-wheeled vehicle. Is this vehicle only for teens or for adults too? How much does it cost to ride it? we answer. Read and find out more!

Moped - driver's license required? Not always!

If you are an adult and have certain qualifications for other vehicles, you do not need a separate course for mopeds. According to the regulations, a car is considered a moped:

  • working volume up to 50 cm³;
  • with a maximum power of up to 4 kW;
  • no more than 45 km / h.

Holders of a category A1, A2, A, B, B1 or T driver's license can confidently drive such vehicles without obtaining special permits. Only those who do not have one or are under the age of 16 must apply for an AM driver's license.

Moped - what permissions?

Prior to 2013, junior high school students could obtain a moped license after passing an exam at school. The document was then called a moped card. The card is issued by the director of the institution. Its great advantage was that the tuition and examination were free and the course took place at the school. There, a young adept of two-wheeled transport could learn to ride a scooter or a moped.

Permits - moped and AM rights

At present, the situation is radically different. Why is this change? In 2013, the Law on Drivers of Vehicles came into force. The moped card is a thing of the past in favor of the AM driver's license. Since then, the course has been held at driver training centers. The teenager must have:

  • over 14 years old;
  • a medical certificate allowing you to drive a vehicle;
  • statement from a parent or legal guardian.

If you have not previously passed a license category exempting you from the course, you must obtain a separate moped license.

Do mopeds need to be registered?

By law, the owner of a moped must register it. The procedure is not significantly different from other vehicles, and the costs are much lower. One registration is not enough. It is also necessary to purchase a compulsory civil liability insurance policy. However, mopeds are not burdened with too high allowances, so there is no need to worry about this. Usually you will pay at least 6 euros per year for insurance. That's about the cost of two full tanks.

  2. The next step is to purchase a policy from an insurance company.
  3. After you receive confirmation of the test and policy, you can contact your local public relations department. Mopeds are registered in the same way as motorcycles, so if you've been here before, you're fine.

How much does a moped cost? Approximate prices

Used mopeds are about 20% cheaper than new ones. And what is the market for these two wheelers in terms of prices? A scooter up to 50 cm³ costs at least 400 euros. Slightly more expensive will be cars stylized as chasers or touring motorcycles. The price of such equipment is usually about 5-6 thousand zł. If you are not limited in budget, then you can choose a new moped with an interesting appearance, but there is no shortage of used ones.

Riding a moped - how to move it?

Mopeds are the most fun driving in town. The narrower the streets and the more cars, the better. It is places like this that highlight the biggest advantages of this type of two-wheeler. Another significant plus is that it is easy to find a parking space. It will not be a big problem when you need to find a piece of free space. Comfort while driving is another advantage of such a vehicle. Also note that city traffic itself limits the speed at which two-wheelers can travel, so certain restrictions are not an issue here.

Moped - the rules of the road that apply to it

Sometimes the speed limiter will be ballast. The maximum speed of mopeds is limited to 45 km/h and any changes to overcome this barrier are prohibited by law. Of course, on Internet forums you will find ways to remove blockages or increase power. Special modification packages are also available to increase the displacement, for example up to 60 cm³. However, all this leads to the fact that your scooter or other equipment loses the status of a moped. And then you run the risk of driving without a license. We definitely do not recommend this.

For people who, for some reason, don't venture into larger cars or don't drive, mopeds are a great option. In principle, you can ride them at any time, except for the winter season, although this season is getting shorter with us. In addition, in large agglomerations, such two-wheeled transport will be indispensable for fast and comfortable movement. If you are traveling to work or shopping, this will be a great option. The price of the vehicle and the cost of registration must of course be taken into account, but for some people a moped will prove to be a reasonable choice.
