Bailey bridges

(1)

Of course, in war, time is of the essence. A very important feature of Bailey bridges was the simplicity and speed of their assembly. Access to both supports was not even needed, since the bridge can be installed on one side. It shows such a situation (7). After the war, having appreciated the high usefulness of the bridges of the collapsible system, such bridges were developed in many countries, and so: in the former USSR, the RMM-49 bridge was built, in Germany - LZB and ESTB. In Poland, in 1965-68, the DMS-65 bridge was developed, the assembly speed of which broke the previous record of Bailey bridges. The DMS-65 bridge is assembled at a speed of 25-30 meters per hour! Such bridges have also found peaceful uses as temporary bridges, such as during the construction of the bridge itself or repairs. We all remember the Siren Bridge in Warsaw, the double bridge of the Dębnice Bridge in Krakow, and dozens of lesser known, but very useful, this time completely peaceful targets.
