Tips for buyers and sellers of used motorcycles

Key points to keep in mind to avoid becoming a victim of fraud

The network is full of used motorcycle sites and classifieds. The problem is that the number of scammers has also exploded, especially overseas. We even see fake professionals using contact details of real dealers and impersonating them.

Some tips for online motorcycle buyers and sellers to avoid being scammed: an informed biker is worth two, they say!

Buyer Tips

  • Is the motorcycle price especially low? 30% cheaper or more? Warning ... this is probably a scam ...
  • Is the seller outside of France? attention to exchanges and discussions conducted only by email, often in questionable French (such as machine translation).
  • Does the seller ask you for a deposit? Run away ...
  • Are there shipping, customs, insurance, tax or other miscellaneous charges? Run away ...
  • Don't know the authorized person offered for payment, or are you prompted to pay with Cash Mandate, Western Union, Money Gram or even Paypal? Give up
  • Does the seller claim to be a professional / dealer? check the contact information in the dealer directories and call the dealership for his stationary phone to check.

Seller Tips

  • A customer invites you to pay for your motorcycle without seeing or trying it? Mistrust
  • Is the buyer outside of France? especially in England, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin or another African country? Again distrust ...
  • A buyer offers you a bank check, but at a foreign bank? check its validity with the issuing bank and wait 3 weeks for your account to be permanently credited
  • The buyer sends you a check in excess of the price of the motorcycle, but does he tell you including the shipping costs that you then have to pay? 100% cheating -> run away
  • The buyer asks for your ID, registration card, bank details? never share this confidential information
