MotoE: first electric motorcycle race won by Niki Tuuli

Organized this weekend on the German track Sachsenring, the first race of a very young MotoE championship was won by a Finnish Niki Tuuli.

Starting from pole at the end of the qualifying period, Niki Tuuli managed to maintain his first place, beating Briton Bradley Smith and Frenchman Mike di Meglio in this first race. The Finnish driver finished the race with an average speed of 147,5 km / h.

A historic race that has unfortunately been interrupted. Of the seven planned laps, the pilots drove only five. Problem: An accident that damaged one of the inflatable safety barriers and raised a red flag by the race marshals.

Bright start to the season

If this first Sachsenring event is a historic step, then this first electric motorcycle championship will have an eventful start. Originally scheduled for May on the sidelines of the Spanish Grand Prix, the first race was canceled due to a massive fire that destroyed all championship bikes during trials in March.

In short, this first season will have just six races. In addition to this first round, five more competitions are planned for 18 riders in Sachsenring, all announced on strictly identical motorcycles supplied by Energica, Italy. The next stop will take place on 11 August at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
