VAZ engines and their modifications

Over the entire history of car production, the engines of VAZ cars have undergone a lot of changes. From model to model, car motors were constantly modified, because technical progress even in the USSR did not stand still.

The first VAZ engine was installed on the first domestic car of the Avtovaz plant, Kopeyka. This engine was quite simple to maintain and repair, for which these engines are still appreciated, for their simplicity, endurance and reliability. The first engine of the first model Zhiguli car with a volume of 1,198 liters, equipped with a carburetor, produced 59 horsepower, and the engine itself had a chain drive.

With the release of each new model, the engines of these cars were also constantly modernized, the working volume increased, instead of the usual chain on the camshaft, a belt drive appeared, thanks to which the engine operation became much quieter, and the problem of stretching the chains automatically disappeared. But on the other hand, with a belt, you need to constantly monitor its condition, because in case of a break it was possible to get a good and expensive repair.

A little later, a modification of the new VAZ power unit had a power of 64 hp, and a little later, due to an increase in the working volume, the power increased to 72 hp, and when. But the improvement did not end there. After an injector with an electronic fuel injection system was installed on the 1,6-liter power unit, the car's power increased to 76 hp.

Well, the further, the more interesting, after the release of a completely new car VAZ 2108 with front-wheel drive, another, more modern engine was installed. By the way, it is that good old eight engine that still stands on all cars, only after undergoing some modernization. If we take, for example, the power unit of Kalina, then there is practically no difference in them, only Kalina already has an injector, and the power is increased to 81 hp.

And more recently, a new Lada Granta car was released, and there is still the same eight-engine, but with a lightweight connecting rod-piston group, which produces power up to 89 hp. Due to the lightweight ShPG, it picks up speed much faster, the dynamics of the car increases significantly, and the noise, on the contrary, has become much quieter.

Absolutely new engines on cars can be found on the VAZ 2112, which have 4 valves per cylinder, that is, 16 valves, with a capacity of 92 hp. and Priors, which already deliver up to 100 hp. Well, in the near future, Avtovaz promises to present a new product to the domestic car market every six months, in March 2012 they promised to release Lada Kalina and Lada Priora with an automatic transmission.
