Same class, but different brands

Oil can only be added when it is the same viscosity and quality classes... The viscosity of the oil is described by the SAE classification, for example, 10W-40, 5W-40, etc. We have to check if the oil selected for top-up has the same description. It is also worth remembering that do not buy completely unknown brands, use products only from well-known manufacturers, for example Castrol, Elf, Liqui Moly, Shell, Orlen. Reputable brands cannot afford to produce oils of dubious quality, so they can be trusted. If we do not want to add oil, but only replace it, all the more we can turn to another manufacturer, but we constantly look at the parameters that must match. You cannot, under the pretext of changing the oil, replace a fluid with one that has a completely different specification from the current specification and does not comply with the manufacturer's recommendations. Such actions can lead, among other things, to destroy the turbocharging, hydraulic valve clearance compensation, the particulate filter or even the entire engine. 

Quality is not obvious

Although the viscosity of the oil is easy to check, it is its quality is not easy to check... If, for example, we use Longlife oil, applying a refueling fluid that does not contain this technology will make the mixture simply not Longlife. Another moment low ash oiland thus the way of interacting with the DPF. If you have a vehicle with a DPF filter, you must use Low SAPS oil, which cannot be mixed with other types of oil.
