compressor clutch

compressor clutch One of the reasons why the air conditioner does not work is the failure of the electromagnetic clutch of the air conditioner compressor.

This is mostly due to a de-energized clutch coil, improper coil resistance, or improper open. compressor clutchair clutch coil. Before checking coil power (with engine and A/C running), check that all switches (high and low pressure) and other controls that should be closed are indeed in this state. An open low pressure switch usually indicates too little refrigerant in the system. If, on the other hand, the high pressure switch is open, this is usually caused by an excess of medium or too high ambient or system temperature. It is possible that one of the switches is simply damaged.

However, if the coil supply voltage and ground are OK and the compressor clutch is not working, check the resistance of the clutch coil. The measurement result must match the manufacturer's specifications. Otherwise, the coil must be replaced, which in practice often means replacing the entire clutch, and sometimes the entire compressor.

The correct operation of the electromagnetic compressor clutch depends on the correct air gap, which is the distance between the surface of the pulley and the clutch drive plate. In some solutions, the air gap can be adjusted, for example using spacers.
