What drone to shoot? What to consider when choosing?

About a decade ago, drones were associated only with sci-fi movies. Today, depending on the model, they are popular equipment for counts, travelers, and even children. And which one to buy if you want to record high-quality video? Which drone to choose for shooting?

What is the best drone for video shooting? Camera above all else

The future fate of an unmanned aerial vehicle largely depends on the choice of an unmanned aerial vehicle for filming: are you looking for a model for shooting amateur cinema or, rather, professional video? Camera drones come in different versions, but in each case, one thing is clear: the camera will be extremely important. So what should you pay attention to in her case?

  • Video resolution is an absolute reason to choose a model already equipped with a camera. The higher it is, the better and more realistic recordings you can expect. A 4K video camera drone is a hugely popular choice as it provides access to extremely detailed images that accurately reflect reality – and equally lifelike transmissions.

This is one of the first ways to distinguish professional equipment from entertainment equipment, as the latter offer more HD quality. Or maybe you want even more? So you will surely fall in love with the quality of 8K drones. At the moment, their offer is still quite limited, but manufacturers are moving more and more in this direction, opening up access to truly amazing footage.

  • Image stabilization – When buying a drone that is already equipped with a camera, be sure to check if it has this function. If so, it will permanently eliminate image vibration, which will greatly improve the quality of the recording or transmission.

  • Equipped with suspension - a kind of tripod, further increasing the level of image stabilization. It ensures that the camera does not vibrate even in the strongest wind and makes high-quality smooth video. If you care about high end equipment, choose this option.

  • FPS i.e. frames per second. It is worth checking how many frames that can be displayed later in one second will be recorded by the drone, because this is another parameter that proves the quality of the video. The more FPS, the smoother the image becomes. The standard today is 30 FPS - this is the number of frames even a cheap drone for filming will have, and 60 FPS is a very good result in the case of unmanned aerial vehicles. Are you looking for truly top-of-the-line equipment designed for professional use, not for amateur or recreational use? Select an aircraft that records at 120 frames per second, which will give you access to extremely smooth images.

  • Automatic object tracking - one of the smart options, typical for devices intended for professional use. Thanks to him, the camera "anchores" on a specific object and focuses on it, even when it suddenly disappears behind the trees. Advanced technology predicts its future movements, so it can quickly track an object after it exits from an obstacle. What's more, this option also ensures that the camera focuses correctly on that particular object.

  • Live broadcast - An option that is well suited for models designed for both amateur and professional use. Thanks to this, you can have the current view of the camera, so the drone becomes your eyes. If you're looking for a really big experience, check out the model that allows you to connect to virtual reality glasses: then you will feel like you are really accompanying the ship on its journey.

  • Equipped with LED lights - an absolutely necessary option when you plan to shoot also at night, in the evening or in the late afternoon. The LEDs will provide the camera with illumination and thus improve visibility in the dark.

  • HDR – excellent color dynamics, i.е. their scatter between white and black is very high. Thanks to HDR technology, colors are greatly improved in detail, realism and detail. In a word: white becomes whiter and black becomes blacker.

  • Zoom
is another parameter that will help you distinguish between a model intended for entertainment and not for professional image recording. The most advanced models offer XNUMXx optical zoom, making them ideal for shooting at high altitudes or very small objects. In the case of more amateur models, either there is no zoom at all, or the zoom is rather several times.

What else to look for when buying a shooting drone?

Which drone to choose for filming is best evidenced not only by the options associated with the video recording itself. So, what other parameters should you pay attention to when buying a drone - regardless of what we will use it for?

  • Battery capacity - it depends on how long your drone can fly on a single battery charge. Manufacturers usually list the estimated runtime of the device, which usually ranges from 10 minutes to even half an hour for the best models. If you plan to cook longer materials, purchase additional batteries. Then you just need to return the drone and quickly replace the battery with a full one to continue recording.

  • range – this will be extremely important if people are planning, among other things, shooting outdoors, for example, shooting long nature scenes. The span in this case is quite large, since the range can be from several meters to several kilometers.

  • Max lifting capacity – this data is especially important for filmmakers. If you are going to attach the camera to the drone, make sure that the weight of the drone will not affect its ability to be lifted. Of course, keep in mind that the best drones are equipped with quality 4K or 8K cameras, so they don't require any extra workload.

  • Automatic modes – options that allow you to choose one of the flight strategies, during which the drone independently chooses a more or less difficult route around a given object in order to please you with the most beautiful shot of the surroundings. They will be equipped mainly with professional models oriented towards film-quality artistic recordings.

So, buying a really good drone shouldn't be a big deal, but it does require some attention to picking the right model. Before buying, it is useful to compare several drones to make sure you choose the most attractive one.
