How high should you hang a bathroom mirror?

The mirror is one of the very important elements of bathroom decor, so its choice should be taken carefully. It has not only a decorative function, but also (and, perhaps, above all) a practical one - because it is there that you look through your daily affairs, performing your grooming rituals. At what height would a bathroom mirror work best? Find out by reading the text below!

The height of the mirror in the bathroom - which is better?

To find out how high a mirror should be in your bathroom, consider who will be using it. The height of family members should be a key factor in choosing the right place to hang this piece of equipment. If you know exactly how tall the people using the bathroom are, place the mirror so that it is at eye level.

The problem arises, however, when the height of households is very different and it is not possible to clearly indicate which point will be the ideal height. Then make sure the lower edge of the mirror is about 20-30 cm higher than the sink, and the upper edge is 1,2-2 m from the floor. It is said that this is a universal way to place a mirror, but it is better to consider other factors. How high it is worth hanging them depends, among other things, on its shape, distance from parallel walls or the presence of a second mirror. It is also worth considering its decorative qualities and how it combines with the rest of the technique.

In the vast majority of bathrooms, the mirror is hung above the washbasin - then you should consider whether it should start directly above it, or whether the user prefers to leave free space between the mirror and ceramics. The first option works well with very large mirrors (such as ones that span the entire wall), while smaller models should be hung over a sink to keep the reflection at eye level.

Bathroom mirror and washbasin size - at what height to hang?

The height of the mirror in the bathroom is largely will depend on the height and width of the sink. Their relationship to each other is important, because both elements will create a coherent whole, which will visually enhance the look of your bathroom. When the mirror is much narrower than the bowl and small, then when adjusting its height, one should focus primarily on the growth of the household, so that its center more or less corresponds to the level of their vision.

However, when the mirror is much wider than the washbasin, and its height corresponds to the same width (so it is square or round), it can hang so that the eye falls just below its center. In the case of such models, due to the large size, the household will be able to carefully examine themselves without having to stand on their toes or use the stairs.

Fans of bathrooms with two sinks and two mirrors should also pay attention to the fact that both glasses hang exactly at the same height. Therefore, a spirit level and an accurate marking of the place where the mirrors are hung on the wall are useful so that their upper and lower edges form an even horizontal line.

The distance of the mirror in the bathroom from other decor elements - what does it matter?

When determining the optimal height of the mirror in the bathroom, one should take into account not only the dimensions of the cabinet under the washbasin and the bowl itself, or the height of the household, but also other decorative elements. The place where the mirror hangs is mainly influenced by:

  • lighting - keep a sufficient distance between the mirror and the lamp, sconce or other source of artificial light to avoid the effect of "crowding" in the room and overexposure of the face (or, conversely, its underexposure). The distance should be about 5-10 cm, so additional lighting above the mirror is often chosen in addition to the main ceiling lighting. You can also choose a model with built-in lighting.
  • Wall cabinets, bookcases and shelves – set their height in relation to the mirror in such a way that you always have free access to them, without the need to bend down often (for example, to care for cosmetics or decorative cosmetics) and thereby lose your reflection from the field of view. You can choose a model with one stand placed under the glass, or you can make the most of the available space and choose additional shelves on both sides of the mirror. Or maybe you decide on a hanging bathroom cabinet with a mirror on the door? There are many possibilities.

At what height should a child hang a mirror?

In recent years, it has become popular to give children a private area in the kitchen or bathroom. In the case of the second room, this is often a mini washbasin complete with a separate mirror, which allows the baby to feel like an "adult", imitating their parents.

Thanks to this solution, the baby will have his own corner even in the bathroom. This will give him a sense of independence. Such mini-versions of bathrooms have been known for a long time and are used, for example, in kindergartens or children's hospitals. This is an extremely child-friendly solution, and by choosing an easy-to-install mirror, you can hang it with your child's changing height.

As you can see, the height at which you hang the mirror is very important. Not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a practical point of view - thanks to the correct placement, your comfort of use will increase.
