Checkered: Smart ForTwo Electric Drive

It's the same with this electric Smart. Life with such a car (if it is, of course, the only one in the house) is full of compromises. The course of your daily life must be planned down to the smallest detail, and you should hardly allow yourself to be surprised by the sudden change in the course of events. Although the trip computer shows a range of 145 kilometers with a fully charged battery, this distance depends on a number of factors.

Thus, even on a rainy day, it runs 20 to 30 kilometers when you have your wipers turned on and a higher ventilation capacity is installed. In winter, short days force you to turn on the lights for most of the day, and in summer, air conditioning helps you catch your breath, and you immediately get to a much more realistic distance of 90 kilometers. You have time? Charging batteries requires a lot of patience. From a regular home outlet, such a Smart will charge seven hours with fully discharged batteries.

You will have more luck if you find a 32A three-phase charger that will charge your Smart in an hour. Next on the list of compromises is the limited amount of space that such a machine offers us. Assuming you will be driving this car yourself, the front passenger seat will typically be reserved for luggage. The trunk, at best, will be able to swallow some kind of shopping bag and nothing more. It is true, however, that there is a huge amount of space available for the driver, and even tall people will easily find a good driving position.

Have you come to a compromise? Well, then this Smart could be the best car in the world. One green light at a traffic light is enough to give this little one the widest smile on your face: the 55-kilowatt constant-torque motor will get you up to 60 kilometers per hour in seconds before the drivers show up. You take your foot off the clutch. Do you know what you get when you buy such a Smart? Lots of completely free parking spaces where you can also charge your car batteries for free. However, if by chance they are all busy, you can still push this little one almost anywhere. Even cleverly.
