According to the new amendments, which entered into force on March 24, 2017, all motorists are required to place a sticker on their vehicle confirming the presence of studded rubber.

A triangle with a capital "Ш" belongs to the category of informative signs. It signals the presence of studded rubber in front of the car, which provides for a reduction in braking distance. In this case, it is necessary to maintain an increased distance in order to avoid an accident during emergency braking.

The absence of this identification mark prohibits movement on such a car. The Vehicle can be operated only after the required identification mark has been placed on it.

Requirements of the law on the presence of the sign "Ш"

According to the current legislation, if the car is shod with summer tires, but at the same time has a “thorns” sign, then the driver will not incur any punishment for this. According to the current amendments, the warning sign "thorns" must be glued to the vehicle simultaneously with the change of summer tires to winter ones.

The presence of such a sign is mandatory during the technical inspection of the vehicle. Without it, the transport will not be allowed to go through this procedure.

The legislation prohibits the movement of vehicles in the summer season on winter tires and vice versa. In the spring and autumn, the type of tires on which the car drives is chosen by the motorist independently.

After the entry into force of the amendments to the current Road Traffic Regulations, the absence of the “thorns” sign is included in the list of malfunctions, the presence of which prohibits movement on a vehicle.

GOST requirements for the sign "thorns" dimensions

According to the approved standards, the “thorns” sign is an equilateral triangle. The length of each of its sides should be 20 centimeters. The triangle has a red border, 10% of its length (2 centimeters). In the center of the sign there is a black letter "Ш". The middle of the sign remains white, and the driver can purchase a warning sign from a car dealer or make one himself.

If the driver decides to make the "thorns" sign himself, then he must adhere to the approved standards for his appearance.

Where should the thorns sign be glued?

According to the approved legislation, the “thorns” sign must be placed on the rear window of the vehicle. It doesn't matter if it will be placed on the outside or inside. If the decal is placed on the inside of the car, then the glass must be without tint. You can place an informative sign on any part of the rear window of the car. It must be visible to other road users driving from behind.

The placement of the “thorns” mark is regulated by clause 8 of the Basic Provisions for the admission to the operation of transport. According to him, the motorist has every right to place a warning sign "spikes" on the rear bumper, trunk lid or glass of the car. The motorist chooses the place for sticking the identification plate on his own. The sign must be visible to the road user driving from behind. The warning sign should be bright. If it has lost its color, it must be replaced.

It is the direct responsibility of the motorist to monitor the appearance of warning signs. The sign may have an adhesive backing. In this case, it is much easier to attach it. If the motorist has made a warning sign "thorns" himself, then he can fix it on the glass of the car using ordinary double-sided tape or adhesive tape.

Penalties for the absence of a warning sign "thorns"

Most Russian drivers neglect warning signs. Often they ask themselves the question of the need and advisability of placing warning signs on the rear window of the car.

The amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations that have come into force oblige motorists to place warning stickers on the rear window, such as: "spikes", "transportation of children", "deaf driver", "novice driver" and others. Since not all motorists are following the innovations in the road legal system, they may not be aware that the placement of warning stickers on the rear window is now mandatory for every car shod with studded winter tires.

If the car does not have a sign indicating the presence of studded rubber, then an employee of the Road Guard Service, during the verification of documents, has every right to issue a warning to such an unlucky car enthusiast or draw up a protocol on the application of material punishment measures to him. The size of the pecuniary penalty for the absence of the “thorns” mark, today, is five hundred rubles.

This size of the pecuniary penalty emphasizes the seriousness of the presence of a warning sign on the car. The impressive amount of the fine is intended to make drivers more responsible in fulfilling their duties to notify other road users about the presence of studded tires.

All motorists are obliged to place a warning sign "thorns", from the moment of replacing summer tires with winter ones. This rule is required. In order not to incur punishment in the form of material punishment, all amendments to the legislation should be strictly observed.
