Joy is always an option

Meet Bucky Ragan, for over 30 years he has been working to make every client's day brighter. 

At Chapel Hill Tire, we've learned that happy employees create happy customers. Over the past 30 or so years, Bucky Ragan has proven this many times. He greeted every day with a great attitude and did his best to make people feel happier than when he found them.

A service consultant at our University Mall, Bucky followed in his father's footsteps when he started working with us back in 1989. His father was part of our team at the University Mall when we moved to that location in 1972.

"It's just a good experience working next to my dad," Bucky said. "He taught me a lot."

Charting his own course, Bucky has become a client favorite, creating joyful interactions with the people we serve. “Not everyone is happy to take their car to the shop. They are already worried about spending money, so I try to make them smile,” he said.

“People love him. He knows everyone,” said Sean McNally, who works closely with Ragan as store manager at the University Mall. "One of the main reasons is that most of the time he does his best."

Several years ago, a hurricane swept through North Carolina, and many people feared that there would be a shortage of gas after it. Knowing that the old client was worried they wouldn't be able to move around, "Bucky came in at 6 a.m., filled up her car with gas and returned it to her," McNally said. "He does good things for a lot of people, but this was too much."          

"He's an honest guy," said colleague John Ogburn. He will go over the invoices over and over and if he has any questions about the payment, he will take the side of the client.”   

Without a doubt, Ragan goes above and beyond every day to lift the spirits of those around him. At the same time, he feels grateful for having spent the last three decades with Chapel Hill Tire. He said, “The people here are all wonderful. They do what they say and take very good care of you. I like the work I'm doing."

Bucky Ragan goes far beyond simply repairing cars and selling tires. He spreads positivity at every opportunity, knowing that a simple smile goes a long way. As we mentioned, here at Chapel Hill Tire we've learned that happy employees create happy customers, and Bucky Ragan certainly convinced us in many ways.
