Audi navigation maps support driver workTo guide us to our destination more efficiently and conveniently, the system uses topographic information. High-resolution maps will also play a key role in self-driving cars.

“The importance of XNUMXD high-resolution maps will only increase in the future,” explains Audi AG Executive Board Member for Technical Development Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg points to the autonomous driving system as a typical example of such a solution: “Here we use the data provided by the maps, especially in situations where forecasting is crucial – at motorway junctions, road junctions, exits and entrances.” maps, Audi is working with strategic partners. One of them is the Dutch map and navigation provider TomTom.

The Ingolstadt-based company suggests that the next generation of the Audi A8 will be the first to use autonomous driving on a larger scale and the first to use high-resolution navigation maps.

Already today, Audi customers can benefit from the highly accurate navigation provided by the corresponding map. The performance assistant on the new Q7 uses accurate road data, including information about the height and slope of the road ahead. The system works even if the navigation in the car is not enabled. On request, it also helps save fuel. It gives the driver hints in which situations he should limit his speed. Efficiency Assistant recognizes curves, roundabouts and intersections, grades and slopes, as well as places and speed limit signs, often long before the operator sees them. A driver who makes full use of this system can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%.
