Inexpensive SUVs and crossovers 2015-2016

The segment of budget crossovers and SUVs is extremely popular in Russia. There is nothing surprising here, because not everyone can afford the expensive BMW X6 or Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen for 6-7 million rubles.

We have already paid a lot of attention to this category of cars on our Vodi.su portal. Let's see how the situation has changed for 2015-2016.

A budget car can be considered if its cost is between 300-500 thousand rubles. Regarding SUVs, the frames are slightly shifted to 800 thousand.

Hyundai creta

In the summer of 2015, there was news that Hyundai plans to start assembling a budget SUV at the Leningrad plant, which will take place between Renault Duster and Opel Mokka. At the moment, the car is not for sale, although it is already available in China.

Creta will be built on the platform of another bestseller from Hyundai - ix35, which breaks all sales records in China. Prices are planned approximately at the following level:

• 1,6-liter engine, manual transmission, front-wheel drive - 628-750 thousand rubles;
• a similar model, but with a gun - 700-750 thousand;
• two-liter diesel (gasoline), automatic transmission, front-wheel drive - 820-870 thousand;
• all-wheel drive version with automatic, 2-liter diesel (gasoline) - up to 980 thousand.

This car can be called an SUV with a stretch, in fact, we have an urban crossover-SUV. Nevertheless, in terms of its technical characteristics, it is in no way inferior to the same Nissan Juke, Qashqai, Renault Duster and others.

The set promises to be quite interesting:

• on-board computer on the most budget version;
• air conditioning (climate control with an air ionizer on more advanced versions);
• ABS + EBD, stability control system, ESP - in all trim levels;
• adaptive lighting system;
• seat and steering column adjustments.

The list goes on and on, but even from the above it is clear that the car will be quite successful. It is also worth mentioning that prototype SUVs passed the necessary tests at the beginning of 2015 along the route Vladivostok - St. Petersburg.

LADA XRAY

Lada Xray is a hatchback cross version based on the Renault Sandero Stepway. The start of sales is constantly being pushed back in time, there is evidence that from February 2016 it will be possible to pre-order this five-door hatchback crossover. Serial production will start in December 2015.

According to the news appearing on the Web, at the price of LADA XREY, it will fit perfectly into the budget segment:

• prices for the basic version will be from 500 thousand;
• the most "cool" equipment will cost 750 thousand rubles.

The new domestic crossover will be driven by a 1,6-liter Nissan engine, which is capable of squeezing out 114 horsepower. The transmission will be a 5-speed manual.

There will also be options with VAZ engines of their own production:

• 1,6-liter gasoline engine with 106 hp;
• 1,8-liter VAZ-21179 engine, 123 hp

Together with a manual transmission, a robotic automatic machine AMT, also locally assembled, will be presented.

It is known that cars even in the database will be equipped with an on-board computer with a 7-inch display. Will be installed: parking sensors, ABS + EBD, motion stabilization sensors, heated front seats, xenon fog lights, front airbags, power windows on the front doors.

It is expected that LADA XRAY will surpass such models as Renault Duster and Sandero Stepway in its configuration. It will occupy a niche between Renault Duster, Sandero and Logan, which are also assembled at a domestic plant in St. Petersburg.

It is also worth saying that although the Sandero Stepway platform is taken as the basis, outwardly the cars will not be much alike.

Datsun Go-Cross

The release of this model is still planned. It was presented only as a concept at the Tokyo Auto Show. It is expected that this SUV will be officially presented in Russia, but only at the end of 2016, at the beginning of 2017.

The Nissan branch - Datsun tried to assemble a budget model for the markets of China, Indonesia, India and Russia. The price for it, in terms of Indian rupees, in Russia should be about 405 thousand rubles - you must admit that it is inexpensive.

Specifications known:

• two 3-cylinder engines of 0,8 and 1,2 liters will be available, designed for 54 and 72 hp;
• 5-speed mechanics;
• front-wheel drive;
• front semi-independent MacPherson suspension, which we already talked about on Vodi.su;
• disc brakes at the front, drum brakes at the rear.

Interestingly, in the basic version, the power steering will not be included in the package, it will only be in the top versions.

We can say that this SUV will appeal to the Russian buyer and will be in approximately the same positions as the Geely MK-Cross, which costs 385-420 thousand rubles.

Lifan X60 FL

Lifan X60 has been one of the most popular budget crossovers in Russia since 2011.

In April 2015, the crossover went through a small facelift and technical update:

• minor changes in appearance;
• expanded equipment;
• There was a version with an automatic transmission.

The updated Lifan X60 FL costs:

• 654 thousand - basic version (manual transmission, ABS + EBD, front airbags, heated front seats, front-wheel drive, etc.);
• 730 thousand - top-end option (automatic transmission or CVT, leather interior, multimedia, on-board computer, parking sensors, rear-view cameras, driver assistant systems).

The exterior clearly shows similarities with the BMW X-series, especially after Lifan received a new, more massive grille as a result of the facelift. Changes in the interior are also noticeable: stylish design, thoughtful ergonomics, 7-inch display on the console.

The dimensions of the body have not changed, however, due to the thoughtful approach of Chinese engineers to the organization of space, 5 passengers will feel quite comfortable in the cabin. The trunk is also quite roomy - 405 liters, which can be increased to more than 1600 by folding the rear seats.

The only drawback is that the shape of the front seats is not fully thought out, which can cause inconvenience on long trips. Also, although the car looks cooler, it is still the same urban crossover, with a low ground clearance of 18 centimeters. So it’s dangerous to go on serious off-road on it.
