In a car, this element is constantly affected by temperature changes, the environment, bumps from road irregularities, brake and steering jerks. The part in question has a fairly large resource. However, there are many factors that drastically reduce its lifespan. These include:
- Poor road quality is one of the reasons for the rapid failure of wheel bearings. This is explained by the fact that the element is located in the center of the wheel and perceives strong loads during the impact when hitting bumps. For some time, the bearing withstands such impacts, but gradually collapses.
- Impact of aggressive environment. In summer, moisture and road dust get inside the hub, and in winter, chemical reagents penetrate.
- Overheat. The rotation of the wheels is constantly associated with friction and an increase in temperature. With constant heating and cooling, which is especially typical for winter, the life of the bearings is reduced.

Based on the name, you can already understand that the part is located near the hub. On the VAZ 2107, the element is installed in its internal cavity and changes, as a rule, upon failure, as evidenced by characteristic signs.
Symptoms of a malfunction
The wheel bearing must always be in good condition. If the part has become unusable, then this can lead to an accident, since the malfunction is accompanied by a large wheel play. As a result, the disc may shear off the wheel bolts. If this situation occurs at high speed, then a serious accident cannot be avoided. - Dry crunch. When the bearing breaks, a metallic crunch occurs during movement. It manifests itself as a result of uneven rolling of the rollers due to damage to the separator. It is difficult to confuse this sound with any other.
- Vibration. If the element in question has severe wear, vibration appears, which is transmitted both to the body and to the steering wheel. It indicates severe wear of the bearing cage, which can lead to seizing.

Breakage detection
To determine the condition of the hub bearing, you need to follow a few simple steps:
- Hang the front wheel from the right side with the help of a jack, not forgetting to put the car on the handbrake and set the stops under the rear wheels.
- A support is installed under the lower suspension arm and the car is removed from the jack.
- They take the wheel with both hands (top and bottom) and perform movements from themselves to themselves, while no play or knock should be felt.

Replacing the front hub bearing

How to remove

How to put

How to lubricate
To lubricate wheel bearing cages, Litol-24 is used. It is also used to apply a new oil seal to the working edge during installation.
Bearing nut tightening torque
The need to tighten the hub nut occurs after replacing the bearings or during their adjustment. The nut is tightened with a torque wrench to a torque of 9,6 Nm, while turning the hub several times to install the bearings in place. Then the nut is loosened and tightened again, but with a torque of 6,8 N m, after which it is locked in this position.
Axle bearing replacement
The axle shaft is an integral part of the VAZ 2107 rear axle. The axle shaft itself practically does not break, but the bearing, through which it is attached to the stocking of the bridge, sometimes fails. Its purpose is to smoothly and evenly rotate the axle shaft while the car is moving. The symptoms of bearing failure are the same as those of the hub elements. In the event of a malfunction, it is necessary to dismantle the axle shaft and replace the defective part.
Bearing removal
Before starting work, you need to prepare the following list of tools:
- a set of socket wrenches with a collar;
- a hammer;
- flat screwdriver;
- chisel;
- the Bulgarian;
- new axle bearing with circlip.
To replace, follow these steps:
- Hang the rear wheel with a jack, and then remove it, not forgetting to set the stops under the front wheels.
- Dismantle the brake drum.To get to the axle shaft, you will need to remove the brake drum
- Using pliers and a screwdriver, dismantle the brake pads.
- With a 17 socket wrench, unscrew the axle shaft mount.The axle shaft mounting bolts are unscrewed with a socket wrench by 17

- The worn bearing is dismantled by setting a wrench of a suitable size and striking the tool with a hammer. Quite often, to remove the bearing, you have to cut the holder with a grinder, since the part sits quite firmly on the axle shaft.Often the bearing cannot be removed, so it is cut off with a grinder
To dismantle the drum, you need to carefully strike on its inside through a wooden block.
Installing a new part
After removing the bearing, you can immediately proceed to reassembly:
- Clean the axle shaft from dirt and wipe with a rag.
- A new bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft, after which the retaining ring is mounted. To mount the latter, it is advisable to heat it up with a blowtorch, which will provide an easier fit and secure hold after cooling.To make it easier to fit the ring on the axle shaft, it is heated with a gas burner or blowtorch
- Remove the old axle shaft seal from the rear axle stocking with a screwdriver or pliers.The old stuffing box is removed with pliers or a screwdriver
- A new seal is driven in through a fitting of a suitable size.A new cuff is installed using the adapter
- Mount the half shaft in place. The axle shaft bearing plate fastening nut is tightened with a torque of 41,6–51,4 N m.
