Ninebot S Max: Segway is back at a discounted price

Disappearing last summer, the Segway returns to life in a lighter, more affordable version called the Ninebot S Max.

In the end, it was just goodbye. Although Segway announced it would end marketing the mythical Segway PT a few months ago, it is finally back in a much more refined form.

Developed by the Segway-Ninebot duo, the Ninebot S Max uses the principle of the hoverboards already sold by the brand. It adds a large steering wheel, typical of the first Segway personal carriers.

Two modes of use

The partially removable steering column allows two modes of operation. When removed, the user's feet pressed against the handlebars provide control similar to that of the current Ninebot S.

When the steering wheel is in place, the user controls the machine by tilting the steering wheel to the left or right. More instinctive operation for increased comfort and stability. In the center of the small steering wheel is a screen that allows you to track your instantaneous speed.

New, lighter and more powerful segway

Considered the successor to the Segway i2, the Ninebot S Max is lighter and more powerful. The machine weighs 22,7 kg and is driven by two electric motors. The total power reaches a peak value of 4,8 kW, but the performance is not degraded. Thus, the top speed remains limited to 20 km / h, which is close to that of its predecessor.

The battery with a total capacity of 432 Wh provides a range of up to 38 km without recharging.

New segway at a low price

Significantly cheaper than the Segway i2, which cost more than € 4000, the new Ninebot S Max now costs $ 849, or less than € 700 at current price. It is sold through the Indiegogo platform and will ship in April. The North American market will be served first.

As for the Ninebot S, a GoKart kit can be added to it. Turning the car into a small electric go-kart, it develops a speed of up to 37 km / h, but with a power reserve of up to 25 km. Equipment the use of which remains reserved for private roads.
