The low range, along with the recharging time, is one of the obstacles to the mass adoption of electric vehicles. If an Israeli startup announced the imminent arrival of fast charging stations, manufacturers, for their part, have increased the range of their vehicles.

Double your autonomy

With the Leaf and Zoe models, Nissan and Renault are among the thriving manufacturers in the EV market. Their cars are as attractive as the BMW i8, the electric Volkswagen Touareg or the Tesla Model S, although they are geared more towards small sedans than luxury sports cars. Thus, the two manufacturers are planning to improve the performance of their electric vehicles in order to overcome one of the main disadvantages of this type of car. They declare for 2020 range up to 400 km, twice as much as what can currently be found on most models sold on the market. This will be possible through the use of new technologies.

Renault-Nissan prefers all-electric

A few weeks ago, the Renault-Nissan Alliance announced the arrival of electric vehicles offering higher performance in terms of range over the next few years. Future models of both brands should be able to travel 300 km in real conditions and 400 km in the approved cycle. Renault and Nissan are hoping to entice customers not wanting to buy an electric car precisely because of its low range. By year 10, manufacturers will aim to occupy 2025% of the market. Unlike Toyota, which opted for hybrid powertrains for most of these models, Renault and Nissan opted for all-electric.
