Nissan Juke - Small Crossover Market Guide Part 3

For those looking for a crossover mainly with the practical aspects of a car in mind, Nissan offers the Qashqai. On the other hand, for those who have a desire to stand out from the crowd in their heads, the Japanese manufacturer serves Juke. Due to the fact that the first model is positioned in the compact pseudo-SUV segment, we will take a closer look at Nissan's smaller offering - more cramped, less functional, but in every sense extraordinary.

When the Qazan Concept debuted at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, hardly anyone expected this bold prototype to enter production almost unchanged. Everything became clear a year later, when Nissan's all-new product, the Juke, visited another edition of the Geneva Motor Show. The car on the move won the hearts of individualists, although it was structurally based on a platform known from such "mundane" cars as the Micra K12 or Renault Clio.

You can really write about body styling - it has something of its own on each side. From the front, it catches the eye ... in general, everything from a huge bumper with characteristic air intakes, through the original radiator grille, to headlights placed on three levels. The distinguishing features of the sideline are, in turn, the narrow windows, the rear handle hidden in the pillar, the sloping roof and, above all, the giant wheel arches. The rear end offers us interesting taillights and a tailgate widened to the rear. All this is of interest, but also a lot of controversy. We add that the body has a length of 4135 mm, a width of 1765 mm and a height of 1565 mm.

Engines - what can we find under the hood?

Base engine Nissan juke is a 1,6-liter gasoline engine that develops 94 hp. at 5400 rpm and 140 Nm in the range of 3200-4400 rpm. With acceleration to the first "hundred" in 12 seconds and a top speed of 168 km / h, this motor is not for fans of fast driving. In return, the naturally aspirated unit offers us reasonable fuel consumption, on a combined cycle of just 6 l/100 km. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, and the car weighs 1162kg with this kit.

The petrol "1,6-liter" is also available in a more powerful version, producing 117 hp. (at 6000 rpm) and 158 Nm (at 4000 rpm). Improved power and torque parameters are expressed in a decrease in the acceleration speed to “hundreds” for 1 second and an increase in the maximum speed by 10 km / h. The curb weight of the car increased by 10 kg, but the fuel consumption according to the manufacturer remained the same. The above figures refer to the version with a 5-speed manual transmission - in the model with the optional CVT transmission, the performance of the car is somewhat worse. We add that the manual version can be ordered with the Stop / Start system - the surcharge for this system is PLN 850.

The list of petrol engines includes two more 1,6 liter versions, but this time with turbocharging. In a weaker (but not weak!) version, the engine produces 190 hp. at 5600 rpm and 240 Nm in the range of 2000-5200 rpm. Performance, fuel consumption and weight vary depending on drive option. The version with a 6-speed manual and front-wheel drive overcomes the 100 km/h mark 8 seconds after the start and stops accelerating at 215 km/h, the version with a CVT with 4x4 drive offers 8,4 seconds and 200 km/h. respectively. Fuel consumption is 6,9 and 7,4 liters, and curb weight is 1286 1425 kg, respectively.

The top variant of the 1.6 DIG-T turbo engine is also the flagship version. Nissan juke. The engine prepared by NISMO specialists produces about 200 hp. (at 6000 rpm) and 250 Nm (in the range of 2400-4800 rpm). As in the case of the weaker variety, we have two drive versions available - with a manual transmission and front-wheel drive, as well as with a CVT and all-wheel drive. In the first case, the car accelerates to “hundreds” in 4 seconds, in the second - in 7,8 seconds. Top speeds and fuel consumption are the same as the 8,2 hp engine, but weights are several kilograms higher.

An alternative to petrol engines is the diesel engine. Known from many Renault models, the 1,5-liter 8-valve diesel engine develops 110 hp. at 4000 rpm and 260 Nm at 1750 rpm. The Juke with this unit guarantees the user decent performance (11,2 seconds to 175, 4,2 km/h top speed), good maneuverability and, above all, low fuel consumption (on average only 100 l/6 km). The motor works with a 1285-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, and the car weighs a total of 1000 kg. The Stop/Start system is offered for approximately PLN XNUMX.

Equipment - what will we get in the series and what will we have to pay extra for?

Buyers of the Japanese crossover are waiting for six configuration options. The cheapest VISIA, available only with the 94 hp 1.6 engine, has front, side and curtain airbags, ESP combined with VDC, power windows in all doors (driver's with quick open function), electric mirrors, a 4-speaker audio system and CD. radio, temporary spare tire, 16-inch steel wheels and immobilizer. Unpainted mirrors and door handles, a driver's seat without height adjustment and the absence of a set of head restraints or an on-board computer can harm. The list of accessories includes only metallic paint for PLN 1800.

The second hardware spec looks a bit better Nissan juke, which was called VISIA PLUS and was offered with two engine options - 1.6 / 94 hp. and 1.5 dCi/110 hp In addition to the standard VISIA model, manual air conditioning, a height-adjustable driver's seat, a head restraint kit, an on-board computer with outside temperature display and 16-inch alloy wheels are offered. Mirrors and door handles in body color are also in the series, but only in the version with a gasoline engine (for diesel, we only get them in higher specifications).

The third version of the equipment is called ACENTA and we will get it in almost all engine options - almost because it is not available for the weakest and most powerful version and the 190-horsepower 1.6 DIG-T engine with CVT gearbox and 4x4 drive. . ACENTA tries to tempt you with cruise control, a multimedia package including 4 speakers, CD/MP3 player, USB port, Bluetooth and steering wheel controls, leather trim on the shift lever and steering wheel, front fog lights, and 17" aluminum rims. In addition, for PLN 1400 we can buy a package containing an automatic air conditioning system and a dynamic control system that changes various parameters of the drive system depending on the selected driving mode (in the 1.6 DIG-T standard package).

You don't have to pay extra for automatic air conditioning and dynamic control system by reaching the next equipment option, N-TEC (not available with base and top engines only). In addition, it offers us the Nissan Connect 2.0 multimedia kit, which not only has 6 speakers, an MP3 player and a USB port, but also a 5,8-inch display, iPod space and a rearview camera. The N-TEC standard doesn't stop there - we get tinted windows, 18-inch wheels, unique exterior and interior details, and sports seats at no extra cost. In addition, the DIG-T model also features dual tailpipes, aluminum pedal caps and black roof lining.

Interestingly, for 18-inch alloy wheels (PLN 1450) you will have to pay extra by choosing a different equipment option. Nissan juke, called TEKNA. Instead, you can order leather upholstery and heated seats (for 3500 PLN 3500) or Shiro interior trim (also including leather upholstery and also for 1800 PLN). The TEKNY comes standard with heated and power mirrors, dusk and rain sensors, and a smart key system. As with lower equipment variants, metallic paint is on the list of options worth PLN.

At the end of our little Nissan spec review, we'll take a look at the NISMO version. It is only available with the 200 hp 1.6 DIG-T engine and at the same time it is the only version offered for this bike. NISMO features on the outside are specially prepared 18" wheels, LED daytime running lights, a tailgate spoiler and a 10 cm exhaust pipe. Inside, in addition to heavily contoured seats and a red tachometer dial, sporty trim is used, including suede upholstery, leather and Alcantara steering wheel, aluminum pedals, numerous red stitching and, of course, NISMO emblems that can be seen in some places.

When preparing the Juke offer, Nissan marketers took the personalization of the car seriously. Effect? The range of accessories is bursting at the seams - rims, mirrors, handles and other elements of appearance, as well as interior details, can be obtained in a variety of colors. We also have plastic body pads that are compatible with standard off-road pads, accessories that improve the functionality of the trunk, roof racks and much more.

Summary - which version should I use?

When choosing a Juke for yourself, it is better not to take into account the two cheapest versions. Firstly, because both are equipped with a not very dynamic 1.6 engine with a power of 94 hp, and secondly, because many important elements are missing in their equipment, and the list of options only aggravates the situation, which ... actually do not exist. A much better choice would be one of the versions of the 117 engine with a power of 1.6 liters. 5 gears), as well as several interesting equipment options.

Those who want maximum performance should ditch the naturally aspirated 1,6-litre, prepare at least a few thousand extra zł and opt for the turbocharged 1.6 DIG-T version. It is a very dynamic, yet not excessively fuel-efficient unit, which is also the only one offered with an optional 4×4 drive (unfortunately, it can only be combined with a CVT transmission). The 190hp version of this bike should be enough for most riders - the 200hp version of the NISMO isn't much faster, but it's tempting with its unique character.

although Nissan Juke it is a city car by design, some customers may often use it for long distance travel. And it is for them that a 1,5-liter diesel engine has been prepared, which may not impress with performance, but is quite maneuverable and very economical. In addition, it is a unit with a relatively simple design, which has been appearing under the hoods of various Nissan, Renault and Dacia models for many years.

Among the types of equipment, the most recommended is the ACENTA version. As we have already mentioned, the lower versions have significant drawbacks, while the higher ones do not offer any special advantages and cost several thousand PLN more. The buyer may be disappointed by the fact that, regardless of the configuration, the list of options is meager, while the wide range of personalization accessories should please. The latter, however, should not be surprising - we are dealing with a car for individualists.
