Nissan Leaf I with 62 kWh battery? It is possible, and the flight range exceeds 390 km! Price? Scares, but does not kill [video]

Canadian electric vehicle expert Simon André bought batteries from a Nissan Leaf e + to fit one in the first generation Leaf. It turned out that the modernization was not difficult, and replacing the package with 62 kWh gave the car a power reserve of 393 kilometers without recharging. The cost of the entire operation is approximately CAD $ 13.

The 24st generation Nissan Leaf had batteries with a total capacity of 30 or 40 kWh. In the second generation, the 62 kWh package was used for the first time, and the Leaf e + was recently introduced with batteries with a total capacity of XNUMX kWh.

Attentive observers noted that the two generations are not much different from each other. The newer received an updated body and interior, but the technologies used were similar. Nissan decided not to actively cool the batteries, which, as you might guess, greatly simplifies the installation of the new package in the chassis of the first generation model.

The battery with a capacity of 62 kWh is 3,8 centimeters thicker than the older one - which means that the vehicle's ground clearance is reduced by this amount. Only the screws on the side did not fit, so Andre decided to use an additional washer (tube) 3,8 cm thick. The rest of the screws fit perfectly.

The connectors also turned out to be identicalso no modifications were required here either. Only an additional gateway (Battery CAN Gateway, GTWNL 1112) was used between the 62 kWh package and the vehicle.

Nissan Leaf (2015) with a package of 62 kWh starts up quite normally, no errors are visible on the screen. With the package loaded to 95 percent, it reported a range of 373 kilometers, which means almost 393 kilometers with a full battery! The charge level was also confirmed by LeafSpy Pro, which introduced the pack's useful capacity: 58,2 kWh.

The locksmith claims that the car charges without problems at the semi-fast and fast (CCS) charging station:

How much does such an update cost? In one of the comments, André quoted “around C $ 13” depending on the state of the package currently in the car. It does the equivalent of just over PLN 38.

For comparison: information from different parts of the world says that Nissan requires the equivalent of 90-130 thousand zlotys for replacing batteries with identical ones, with the same power (24 or 30 kWh):
