Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 DI Turbo Lвтомат LWB

Well, we already have a lot of experience with the sixth generation Patrol in the Auto store. Mostly good. Patrol is the kind of off-road vehicle that you can seriously jump a meter high and five meters long, and not only will it land softly and softly, but after the jump (or several successive jumps) it will be technically exactly the same as it was before. No suspension sag, no broken front wheel geometry, no missing or broken parts.

Patrol is an off-road van that is tall enough to avoid getting stuck in the stomach often. Therefore, installing good tires often only requires the activation of the four-wheel drive in order to overcome a muddy obstacle. It's hard to generalize, but Nissan SUVs have been wearing scorpion-on-side (Pirelli) tires in our tests for some time now, and the combination has proven great too many times to be ascribed to the current set of circumstances. "Our" test site for the most extreme conditions and this time lost to Patrol. Namely, he easily overcame all obstacles: deep puddles, quicksand, slopes, side slopes and their combination.

The Patrol is also an SUV for which the promised water depth recorded in the data does not cause any headaches. Well, Patrol has one drawback. The front license plate mount only withstands one pass through deep water. Secondly, discounts and the tablet falls off. Checked twice. The whirlpool of water, created by the front when passing half a meter of water, simultaneously breaks it off. If you subtract that (or if you prepare for it earlier, for example by tightening the plate), Patrol won't give up here either. In particular, a diesel car is less sensitive to water as it does not require any electrical wiring for ignition. Even when water floods the tailpipe, the engine quietly spins forward and obeys all the driver's commands.

Such a chubby SUV is sure to inspire fear and respect. And in the end, it's right. The Devil weighs over two tons (empty!), and beneath the seemingly still rather crude off-road bodywork lies a sturdy chassis and two rigid axles attached to it. On the other hand, it is not so "dangerous". Even a coward who gets behind the wheel will find that driving the Patrol is an easy job. The ball-and-socket steering wheel, of course heavily servo-enhanced, by contrast, isn't racing precise and straight, but it's just right for the tasks the Patrol has to handle. Orienting this beast by a mouse tail more than five meters long, it is important to pay attention only to this - the length. Even more surprisingly maneuverable (in length) five meters is only five meters. Every lady knows that length can be hell.

The good side of this SUV is not only excellent off-road overcoming, even on asphalt Patrol can be a savior. Sidewalk? Ha! Snow on the slope? Phew! And since the Patrol has a new engine: to travel? More than just passable! The engine has a volume of three liters, a pleasant maximum power and high torque. Muddy slope, if I can return for a moment to terrain that even in a dream can not be walked, the Patrol overcomes at idle. Sam. Electronics only makes sure that the speed does not fall to idle, but it works.

Back on the road. Previous turbo diesels were very good in the field, but they were quite difficult to drive with. Now Patrol develops a good speed at road level, so you can be punished even on the track, and he will not get tired quickly on the descent. Thanks to its terrain-adapted chassis, it leans perfectly in fast corners, but don't panic! As long as you turn the steering wheel correctly and do not demand the impossible, the Patrol will stand on the tracks well and compete with cars. Only on extremely slippery surfaces will the rear end slip until you engage all four wheels. And the engine in most cases will be able to fulfill the wishes and wishes of the driver.

The new four-cylinder four-liter engine has larger pistons with even longer stroke. Hence the torque. Well, in the morning when it's cold it takes a little patience to warm up before starting, the preheat is very short later. The warmth is surprisingly calm. Even at idle speed, when the tachometer needle is closer to 500 than to 1000 (!), There is very little vibration in the cab. And at the end of the day, fuel consumption is also decent when you consider the weight, frontal area, aerodynamic coefficient and the fact that we were driving more off-road than on asphalt.

In combination with the mechanics, a new option is great - an automatic transmission. The gearbox has an old design with three gears and an additional overdrive, but it is quite electronic, shifts quickly and at the same time is quite soft during these maneuvers. The unloved creak is barely noticeable. Especially it turns out on the ground, well, even on the road. It is not a hit of the latest technology, however, I easily recommend it.

Such a Patrol, as a test one, is probably one of the most expensive possible: due to the long wheelbase, automatic transmission, sunroof, leather interior and much more. It feels good until you get picky. Patrols are ergonomically incomplete (which is, in fact, typical of most SUVs): the gear lever is clumsy, the switches are uneven in shape and illogically scattered around the dashboard, the remote unlock button on the key is awkward, rear visibility is three. times more difficult .. bifurcation of the rear doors, due to a bad (only one) wiper on them and because of a bad rear light.

That leaves the pleasant feeling that the Patrol moves easily over most surfaces. If you are still picky in the field, you have a number of additional aids in addition to all-wheel drive: gearbox, rear differential lock and rear stabilizer deactivation. If that doesn't work, it probably won't work with any other SUV.

However, find out that the Patrol is good on tarmac before driving into the field.

evaluation

  • The Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo Automatic LWB is an SUV that I dare to recommend without prejudice - of course, only to those who already know what they want. Patrol is not the kind of SUV that should be installed in the city; The Patrol is a real SUV that doesn't disappoint on the pavement, but off-road is still its specialty. It will be hard to be disappointed.
