Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 IN Turbo SWB

Firstly, the car is much easier to overcome short and high obstacles, does not get stuck as quickly as cars with a longer wheelbase. Secondly, it is more maneuverable as it can also be deployed in tight spaces. And thirdly, this difference in length of half a meter can be well known anywhere.

SWB! ? Short wheelbase. The short wheelbase means just that. Of course, there are drawbacks to the short wheelbase. The spaciousness becomes doubtful. Although this Patrol measures just under four and a half meters, it only has two side doors. Still very short. Therefore, access to the rear seats is rather difficult and inconvenient. However, the front seat does not return to its original position, so it needs to be adjusted over and over again. Therefore, the "short" patrol is more suitable for only two.

It's perfect for a driver who folds down the rear seats and then uses a huge trunk in addition to the two front seats, which is basically not much. A practical folding cushion allows you to hide the contents of both the rear and rear seats.

Patrol is, of course, a real SUV. With chassis, rigid axles, removable rear sway bar, front wheel drive, gearbox, rear differential lock and… and of course a diesel engine.

There is no SUV without a diesel engine! Patrol offered a good solution with a new four-cylinder (!) With a huge volume (3 liters) instead of the old 2-liter six-cylinder. The huge torque at low revs and the modern design (direct fuel injection, turbocharger) promise and deliver exactly what this car needs. Uncomplicated engine and good performance. In addition, the engine behaves as well as in the field (at low revs) on the fast lane. A cruising speed of 8 km / h is easily achievable.

The controls are interesting too. I wouldn't expect much from such a small and seemingly bulky giant, but luckily the handling is surprisingly good even at higher speeds. The driving radius is also exemplary small, only to the high number of revolutions (otherwise very well servo-assisted) of the steering wheel you have to get used to. Ergonomics and driver well-being are not exactly enviable, but we expect everything from a thoroughbred SUV. And much more important is the dominant feeling that such a giant gives a person.

The manual gearbox together with the gearbox is average and does not cause any particular problems when driving, only the fuel consumption can be a little surprising. It is not exactly one of the most economical, but if we think about how much mass it should move, we will have to come to terms with an average of fifteen liters.

With the short Patrol, we get an excellent obstacle climber, but despite its size, it cannot boast of its spaciousness. The easiest is access through the back door. Really, you just have to think about where to go in, as it really does look wider than it is long.

evaluation

  • With a new engine, fairly rich equipment and reliable technology, the Patrol is one of those SUVs that perform well both on paved roads and in extreme off-road conditions. With narrow wheels and wide, ultra-wide fenders, it may even be ugly, but it impresses with its uncompromising attitude.
