Nissan Plans Production of IDx Concepts

The concepts were developed as part of a crowdsourced project at Nissan Design Studios in the UK.

Nissan Plans Production of IDx Concepts Nissan Freeflow and Nismo IDx Concepts were the star at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, and it looks like the automaker's positive reaction has given rise to production versions.

Nissan bosses have said there is "already a plan" to turn the concepts into production cars, according to British website Autocar. Although the source of the comment was not cited, the automaker couldn't help but notice the recognition given to the two concepts - and especially the Nismo IDx, which pays homage to the legendary Datsun 1600 (although it says the similarities weren't intentional).

The cars were developed as part of a crowdsourced project at Nissan's design studios in the UK, with about 100 young people in their 20s working on the design. The results were presented in Tokyo in two forms: the retro Freeflow IDx and the sporty Nismo IDx with echoes of early Datsun 1600 rally heroes.

The name IDx comes from a combination of the abbreviation "identification" and "x", denoting new ideas sown through communication. Nissan says the collaborative approach with "digital natives" (those born after 1990) has sparked new ideas and creativity - and plans to continue the practice for future projects and product development.
