Nissan Primera 2.0 Hypertronic CVT M-6 Elegance

This case has been used for generations, and from generation to generation, Nissan has been working hard to meet the needs of European customers. It works well for him. Both with rich equipment and with an elegant interior, as well as with reliable technology. The case comes in several trim levels, and in the combination we tested it is only available in the top trim level, Elegance.

The Primera not only had the most powerful engine, but also a completely new gearbox. Learning the abbreviations CVT, Hypertronic and M-6 may create less confusion or even cause fear, but as it turns out later, panic while driving is unnecessary. The automatic transmission makes driving much easier, making it less stressful and tiring. Of course, this is inevitably due to the flawless operation of the new gearbox, which you get in exchange for a manual gearbox and, of course, for a surcharge (430 thousand) in the new Primer. They used a so-called CVT transmission system with an infinite number of gear ratios. It is a pair of infinitely variable tapered pulleys, just like Audi, except Nissan used a steel belt instead of a chain.

Power transmission is provided by a hydraulic clutch, as is usually the case in classic automatic transmissions. In automatic mode, the engine speed depends on the engine load. They increase with the weight of the foot on the accelerator pedal. The harder you press on the gas, the higher the engine rpm. With the decisive gas pressure, the engine speed remains high, despite the fact that the car picks up speed. Since we're not quite used to driving this way, it can be annoying at first. It's like a clutch slipping. Or like modern scooters using a similar continuously variable transmission mode. Thus, despite the increase in speed, the engine always operates in the optimal operating range with maximum efficiency. It calms down only when we release the gas or get tired of such trips and switch to manual mode. This is what this transmission allows us to do, and the M-6 designation means just that. Moving the lever to the right, we switch to manual mode, where we select one of six preset gear ratios. With short back and forth strokes, you can drive like a classic six-speed manual transmission. The manual override option can be used at any time. Gear shifting in both cases, automatic or manual, is of such a high level of quality that we can easily recommend it.

The best equipment package includes xenon headlights, semi-automatic air conditioning, CD changer, leather on the steering wheel and gear lever, wood trim, power sunroof ... not to mention ABS brake, four airbags, ISOFIX child seat mount or remote blocking. The already high level of comfort is only increased by the automatic transmission.

The body can be a good example of unobtrusive elegance with a modern CVT as well as human-friendly and well-thought-out technology.

  • The example proves that a good modern automatic transmission can be obtained even in a middle-class car. Thanks to its rich equipment, unobtrusive appearance and reliable technologies, Primera reaches the class of "modern" European cars.
