Test drive Nokian WR SUV 4: a reliable choice for crossovers

The tires work stably in dramatically changing weather conditions.

The new Nokian WR SUV 4 winter tires are a safe and reliable choice for SUVs and crossovers. The most important characteristics of tires designed for the roads of Central Europe are excellent rain control and stable performance in rapidly changing weather conditions.

The new Nokian WR SUV 4 is specially designed for European SUV drivers and offers excellent performance in snow, sleet and heavy rain. Whether you are driving on the highway, in heavy city traffic or on a beautiful mountain road, the driving experience is predictable and manageable on slippery and unsafe roads. Nokian Tires Climate Grip Concept copes with sudden changes in road conditions and ensures safe driving in winter.

The Nokian WR SUV 4 offers excellent wet grip and flawless handling in heavy rain and muddy roads. The strong and durable construction, combined with specially reinforced sidewalls, provides the tire with excellent stability and resistance to impacts and cuts that can occur while driving.

The new tires are available in speed categories H (210 km / h), V (240 km / h) and W (270 km / h), and an extensive selection covers 57 products from 16 to 21 inches. The new Nokian WR SUV 4 will go on sale in autumn 2018.

Get ready and outsmart winter

Today, sweeping changes are taking place throughout Europe during the winter season. Increasingly, there is heavy rainfall, which increases the amount of dangerous mud, even when driving on dry roads. The Nokian SUV 4 offers an exceptional combination of excellent snow performance, wet and dry handling and aquaplaning resistance.

“It is expected that total rainfall will increase and the number of severe storms will increase due to climate change. This will cause treacherous road conditions and increase the risk of flooding. Add to that the chances of hydroplaning, as the snow on the roads can be quite watery and rainy as they are heavily salted. When driving a heavy SUV, especially at high speeds, tires must be suitable for all these conditions. Versatile winter performance, excellent handling and the fact that it is specifically designed for SUVs make the Nokian WR SUV 4 the perfect choice for the winter roads of Central Europe,” explains Marko Rantonen, Development Manager at Nokian Tires.

Climate Grip Concept – first-class handling in all winter conditions

The Nokian WR SUV 4 winter characteristics are designed to reduce the element of surprise and are based on the new Climate Grip concept. Composed of a unique sipe system, winter tread compound and directional tread pattern, this novelty handles all winter conditions with ease and efficiency.

Directional tread pattern with computer-optimized sipes for maximum performance in a variety of winter conditions. The tread pattern is designed for high performance off-road vehicles and ensures stable driving. The solid center rib ensures tire stability on all surfaces, especially at high speeds.

A wide and dense mesh of bars along the tire edges increases stability and improves handling. Sharp zigzag edges on the tire edges open and close when braking and accelerating, improving wet grip. The slats remove water from the road surface, increasing stability and traction on muddy and wet roads. Deep yet reinforced planks in the center of the shoulder block reinforce the tread blocks for precise and responsive handling.

Stepped grooves between the tire shoulders and the center zone with specially shaped teeth with Snow Claws technology provide maximum snow traction and stability at high speeds. Snow claws effectively adhere to the road surface when driving on soft snow or other soft terrain. This design not only adds traction on snow, but also improves the driving experience when cornering and changing lanes.

The polished main grooves give the tire a stylish look, but they also do their job. They effectively remove water and rain from the surface of the tire, giving it a modern look.

The Nokian WR SUV 4 provides excellent traction on snowy roads, even at low temperatures. The Nokian WR SUV mixture for winter conditions remains pliable and has good grip even in very cold weather. Developed for a wide range of winter conditions and high speeds, this new generation rubber compound provides excellent wet grip and abrasion resistance at all temperatures. The high silica content of the tread compound optimizes wet grip. Silicon dioxide reacts reliably as temperatures rise and fall. This new compound, combined with the tread pattern, also provides low rolling resistance, which means lower fuel consumption.

The new Nokian WR SUV 4 has been improved over the previous Nokian WR SUV 3, especially in wet handling and braking. With a significant increase in snow removal, the Nokian WR SUV 4 offers the best snow grip on the market. Progress in rolling resistance makes the Nokian WR AUV 4 an excellent choice from a financial point of view.

Strong structure and stable management

Powerful SUVs require a lot of tires. They must be strong and tough to keep tall and heavy vehicles stable even at high speeds or in poor road conditions. The new Nokian WR SUV 4 actively supports the off-road stability system and handles high wheel loads precisely and flexibly.

In addition to a strong and stable construction, Aramid Sidewall technology makes the tire even more durable. The sidewall of the tire contains extremely strong aramid fibers that make it more resistant to impacts and cuts that would otherwise easily damage it and interrupt your ride. Such damage usually requires a tire change.

Multilateral testing in Europe

Nokian Tires tests all over the world on a variety of road surfaces and in rapidly changing climatic conditions. A variety of tire tests ensure that they perform at their best in a variety of conditions and extreme situations. The Nokian WR SUV 4 is extensively tested in specialist centers around the world. The winter tire's properties were refined at the Nokian Tires White Hell testing facility in Lapland, and the suspension performance characteristics were refined on the Nokian test track in southern Finland. The exemplary results of maneuverability, especially at high speeds, are the result of rigorous testing in Germany and Spain.

Patented safety

For added safety, the tire is equipped with the so-called Safe Driving Indicator (DSI) patented by Nokian Tires. The Winter Safety Indicator (WSI) remains visible down to a channel depth of four millimeters. If the snowflake symbol has worn off, Nokian Tires recommends replacing the winter tires with new ones to ensure safe driving.

Location and pressure indicators in the information area on the tire sidewall also enhance safety. The information area allows you to record the correct tire pressure and installation location when changing a tire. Safety is further enhanced by a new section that can be used to register the tightening torque of alloy wheel bolts.

New Nokian WR SUV 4 – Outsmart Winter

• Excellent handling on wet, snowy and muddy roads.

• Maximum stability and driving comfort.

• Exceptional durability.

Major innovations

Climate Grip concept: Excellent handling on wet, snowy and muddy roads. The direction of the tread pattern adds stability when driving and ensures safety in aquaplaning and wet snow. Specially adapted sipes reinforce the tire for improved handling on wet and dry roads, while the durable winter SUV compound reliably responds to ups and downs in winter temperatures.

Snow Claws provide maximum traction in the snow. "Nails" stick effectively on soft snow or other soft surfaces. This design not only contributes to good grip on snow, but also improves the driving experience when cornering or changing lanes.

Polished channels. Stylish and functional – Rain and water pass easily and efficiently through the smooth, polished channels.

ТAranmid Sidewall technology - exceptional durability. Extremely strong aramid fibers reinforce the sidewall of the tire, providing greater durability and protection in more dangerous driving situations. The fibers make the tire more resistant to impacts and cuts that could otherwise easily damage it.
