New Toyota Tundra 2022 vs. Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado

The new Toyota Tundra 2022 should compete with Ford, Chevrolet and Ram, but the 2022 Tundra still has some drawbacks. However, Toyota hopes to increase the number of sales of the pickup truck and win over with an updated design.

Toyota Tundra has never had such colossal sales figures as the Ford F-150, Ram 1500 or Chevy Silverado. However, there is a new model for 2022 and Toyota has made a number of changes to the truck to try and make it more competitive with the best of the big three. Question: is it enough?

Well, below you will find some of the most important specifications for the most powerful models and engine configurations for each vehicle, all in one place. Let's see how the new 2022 Toyota Tundra fares.

Toyota Tundra 2022

  • Engine and Power: i-Force Max twin-turbocharged 6-liter V3,5 hybrid producing 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.
  • Maximum towing: 12,000 lbs.
  • Maximum Payload: 1,940 lbs.
  • Ford F-150 2021

    • Engine and Power: 6-litre twin-turbo V3,5 PowerBoost hybrid with 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque
    • Maximum towing: 14,000 lbs.
    • Maximum Payload: 3,325 lbs.
    • Chevy Silverado 2022 1500 year

      • Engine and power: 8-liter V6.2 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
      • Maximum towing: 13,300 lbs.
      • Maximum Payload: 2,280 lbs.
      • Dodge Ram 1500 2021

        • Engine and Power: 8-volt eTorque mild-hybrid 5.7-liter V48 with 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.
        • Maximum towing: 12,750 lbs.
        • Maximum Payload: 2,300 lbs.
        • Before comparing any vehicle head-to-head, you need to know what configurations it pits against each other; it can be almost overwhelming. There are so many body lengths, cab designs, trailer kits, and drivetrain combinations that all affect a truck's capabilities. For the sake of superlatives, we've listed each truck's maximum horsepower in terms of horsepower, traction, and payload, although each is achieved with different engine, cab, and body configurations.

          Improved towing capacity

The Tundra's towing capacity has increased by a full ton for 2022, although it still trails domestic trucks. The Ram 1500's maximum towing capacity is 12,750 4 pounds, and to reach that number you'll need a 2x1500 extended cab. Meanwhile, the Chevy Silverado 4 Crew Cab 4x13,300 can tow 8 6.2 pounds with the 3.0-liter V150 gasoline or 4-liter Duramax inline-six diesel engine. Finally, the Ford F-2 14,000x3.5 can tow class-leading pounds with the right specs, although it's actually the less powerful XNUMX-liter EcoBoost rather than the hybrid that gets the job done in this case.

In terms of payload, Toyota is also at the bottom of this comparison. The Ram 1500 has a maximum payload of 2,300 pounds, although you'll need a 6-litre V3.6 truck with a 3.55 rear axle for that. Meanwhile, an F-150 4x2 with a conventional cab and V8 engine can handle 3,325 pounds in the back. Finally, the 2022 Chevy Silverado can carry 2,280 pounds in the back.

It's important to note that these numbers are closer together when comparing specific cab, body and powertrain configurations, but since you can't get a regular cab like the Tundra, you're limited to Crew Cab and Crew Cab ratings. The Tundra's maximum towing and payload performance is achieved with the SR5, Crew Cab, 6.5-foot 4x2 bed.

          Why Toyota Tundra is good

One area where the Tundra outperforms the competition is in standard and available power and torque. This generation of the Tundra no longer has a V8, but the base engine is now a powerful twin-turbocharged V6, similar on paper to Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost. All domestic pickups are also available as stripped-down performance vehicles with less power, though this is not the case with the Tundra; you can't get less than 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The available hybrid version of this powertrain also impresses with a class-leading 437bhp. and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Whether Toyota's interiors and exteriors will play well next to cars like the recently refreshed Silverado remains to be seen. The Big Three and Toyota are also suffering from stoppages and production cuts related to chip production, so this will give an advantage to anyone who can actually get trucks to dealerships and into the hands of customers. Until food is cut, and it may be a while before it does, it can be hard to know what Americans like better.
