New Year's Eve in the style of the twenties

Twenties again! Parties in the XNUMXth century were full of glitz and glamour. Let's meet the New Year as if we were friends of the Great Gatsby himself!

Request

When organizing an event inspired by the XNUMXs, it is worth paying attention to the smallest details and giving guests time to prepare suitable outfits. That is why it is worth mentioning the theme in the invitation (it can also be designed in a characteristic style).

Decoration

There are many faux feathers available at holiday gadget stores that will make a pretty table decoration. Long feathers can be placed in vases tied with gold ribbon. Attach the shorter ones to the tape you wrap around the napkins.

AMBITION Diamond glasses

This evening we can also borrow crystal tableware and brass interior elements from aunts and grandmothers. Let there be a lot of everything and let it sparkle. It is worth trying to buy large white flowers. If you want a symbolic decoration, one transparent vase filled with a gold Christmas tree chain is enough.

Refreshments

The XNUMXth was Prohibition, Rockefeller, meringues, fortified lemonade, orange towers, and great snacks. Remember the Al Capone story? All XNUMXs style events are based on two characters: The Great Gatsby and Al Capone. During Prohibition, alcohol was only available in exceptional places. We can create an illegal bar atmosphere at home and serve all alcoholic drinks like regular lemonade. A Long Island drink and lemonade enriched with the drink our country is famous for will work best.

Menu in the twenties

My suggestions:

Rockefeller oysters

Baked ham

Vegetables with pates

Roasted nuts

With salmon mousse

Tabenada figs

If you want to cook oysters, you will definitely need to buy special gloves and a very sharp oyster knife with a wide shaft. Place the oysters on a towel so they don't slip. We are looking for a more convex part and open it. We leave the liquid. Sprinkle heaps of salt on a baking sheet so that you can put oysters on them and so that they do not tip over during baking.

Knife Weis Oyster, silver, 15 cm

Melt butter in a frying pan (1 tablespoon per oyster), add chopped garlic clove (1 to 2 oysters) and spinach (40 g per oyster). Then fry everything for about 30 seconds. Add Tabasco (1 drop per oyster), Parmesan (1 tablespoon per oyster) and some lemon juice. Mix everything with panko (2 tablespoons per oyster). Top each oyster with breadcrumbs and toppings. Bake at 180 degrees for about 7 minutes until the breadcrumbs are golden. We serve immediately.

Baked ham is best served with tiny potatoes and roasted chestnuts. It is good to cook ham according to your favorite, proven recipe. This will be the only hot dish of the evening, so make it perfect. If the batch is small, you can bake a capon or castrated rooster, which is very gentle. If we don’t have access to capons, just bake chicken gold and serve with unusual additions - potatoes, caramelized carrots (bake small carrots, then coat with honey and bake for 2-3 minutes), chestnuts (you can buy them in French hypermarkets) or fried Brussels sprouts with cranberries (peel Brussels sprouts, put on a baking sheet with olive oil and bake for a quarter of an hour until golden brown, serve with cranberries and chopped nuts).

Vegetables with pates, especially with humus, seem to be the standard of the party. However, elegantly arranged on a large plate with matching small bowls, they can be a unique appetizer at a XNUMXs style party.

Rotating board for cheese and snacks

In addition to humus, vegetables go well with guacamole, fried pepper pate (mix fried peppers with olive oil and garlic), cottage cheese mixed with a little wild garlic.

Roasted nuts are an exceptionally elegant appetizer. We can try to prepare several flavor versions. The nuts are sprinkled with edible gold and will look like little gold nuggets.

Remember to use unroasted and unsalted nuts and seeds. We can use pecans, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. For 5 cups of nuts, we need 3 tablespoons of melted butter and 3 tablespoons of honey. Mix everything and fry for about 25 minutes at 170 degrees.

Attention! You must turn the nuts every 5 minutes so they don't burn. If we like spicy flavors, we can add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of hot pepper to the oil. Nuts roasted in butter with the addition of fresh rosemary, which gives them a wonderful aroma, also taste delicious. My favorite option is nuts and butter, double the amount of maple syrup (6 tablespoons for 5 cups of nuts), and 2 tablespoons of ginger spice.

snack set

Salmon mousse is a simple appetizer that can be squeezed out with a piping bag to make an exceptionally elegant sandwich. Mix 200 g of smoked salmon with 300 g of creamy natural cheese, 1 minced garlic clove and 2 tablespoons of chopped dill. Put the salmon mousse on brown bread, preferably on pumpkin bread, and sprinkle with almond flakes.

Fig tapenade is my favorite party recipe. It's good for everyone and perfect for baguettes, cheeses and grissini sticks. Pour 16 dried figs into 1 cup of water and boil until soft. Mix them with 320g pitted black olives, 4 tablespoons capers, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoon French mustard, 2 garlic cloves and ½ cup olive oil.
