Volkswagen news at the Geneva Motor Show

One of the largest car manufacturers in the world has not disappointed the expectations of automotive fans and has prepared a few novelties for this year's Geneva Motor Show, which we will try to briefly introduce to you.

XL1

Cosmic appearance, light weight (795 kg), great aerodynamics (Cw 0,189) and a low center of gravity (height 1.153 mm) - it sounds like a recipe for a sports car, but VW decided to use the above ingredients to build one of the most economical and efficient cars on the market. world. The XL1, as its name sounds, is a plug-in hybrid car. The plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a 48 HP two-cylinder TDI engine, a 27 HP electric motor, a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and a 5,5 kWh lithium-ion battery, mean that the XL1 emits only 21 g / km CO2. The car has a top speed of 160 km / h, which is electronically limited, and accelerates to 100 km / h in 12,7 seconds. The fuel consumption seems to be surprising - the manufacturer claims that driving 100 kilometers will cost 0,9 liters of fuel. If we want to use the XL1 in electric mode, the batteries will allow us to travel 50 km.

Golf in five flavors

The Geneva fair is the time when VW decided to present to the world its most popular model as a station wagon. The Golf Variant means, above all, more cargo space. Compared to its predecessor, it increased by 100 l and now amounts to 605 l. The car is 307 mm longer than the hatchback version and measures 4562 mm. A wide range of power units with power from 85 HP to 150 HP offers a wide choice for every interested Golf estate model. A new feature is the option to buy a Variant in the TDI BlueMotion version. In this case, the Golf with a 110 HP engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox is to be satisfied with an average of 3,3 liters of fuel per 100 km (CO2 emissions: 87 g / km).

Sports fans will surely be pleased to know about the serial version of the Golf GTI, which is distinguished above all by stylistic elements. The red slats on the radiator grille have been extended and continue through the headlights. However, dynamic looks are not everything - under the hood of the GTI there is a two-liter, turbocharged engine with 220 HP. If, however, someone lacks horsepower, then he can save himself by purchasing the Performance package, increasing the car's power to 230 HP. Both engines are mated to a six-speed manual or automatic (DSG) gearbox and are also fitted with the Start-Stop system as standard.

For people who value sportiness and moderate fuel consumption, VW has prepared the 184th generation Golf in the GTD version. In terms of appearance, this version is stylistically similar to the GTI model, although it is less flashy. There is also less horsepower under the hood, "only" 380, but the torque of 100 Nm fully compensates for this loss. The car accelerates to 7,5 km/h in 4,2 seconds, and the declared average fuel consumption is only 100 liters for every XNUMX km traveled. The GTD is available with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission (DSG).

Caring for the natural environment as well as customers' wallets is characterized by the Golf TDI BlueMotion debuting in Geneva, which is one of the most fuel-efficient cars on the market. The car is powered by a 110 HP TDI engine, and the manufacturer ensures that the average fuel consumption will not exceed 3,3 liters of diesel. Such low fuel consumption means that CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will be only 85 g/km. How were these results achieved? The BlueMotion version, in addition to a moderately powerful engine, has a radically reduced air resistance coefficient. Aerodynamic modifications, such as a suspension lowered by 15 mm, a spoiler on the roof edge, a closed radiator grille and optimized air flow, as well as reduced weight and a properly selected gearbox with long gear ratios allow the BlueMotion model to achieve such low fuel consumption.

This is not the end of innovative solutions for the Golf. Wanting to provide a wide selection and access to modern and economical drive systems, VW decided to offer its customers a car powered by natural gas. The Golf TGI BlueMotion, as we are talking about it, is a real long-distance runner. Its supercharged 1.4 TSI engine with a power of 110 HP can be powered by gasoline or natural gas. The gas reserve allows it to travel up to 420 km, and the petrol tank for 940 km, so in total the Golf TGI BlueMotion can travel up to 1360 kilometers without refueling. In this case, saving money does not come at the cost of poor dynamics - the TGI BlueMotion accelerates to 10,5 km/h in 194 seconds and its maximum speed is XNUMX km/h.

Cross up!

A new model has just joined the CrossPolo, CrossGolf and CrossTouran group - Cross up !. The car is distinguished by changed exterior elements such as black covers at the wheel arches and sills, silver roof rails and bumpers with silver covers. Cross up! Unfortunately, there is no four-wheel drive, but thanks to the raised body and larger, 16-inch wheels, it will be easier for him to overcome higher curbs. Standard under the hood - 3 cylinders, 1 liter of displacement and 75 HP.

e-Co-Motion

800 kg payload and electric drive - these two seemingly contradictory properties are the hallmarks of the new VW e-Co-Motion. European exhaust gas standards are becoming more and more restrictive every year, but the demand for suppliers in the most smoky city centers continues to grow. VW decided to meet these expectations by creating e-Co-Motion, whose high load capacity, ultra-modern shape and purely electric drive may change the approach to light commercial vehicles in the near future. The e-Co-Motion concept with a length of 4,55 m (width: 1,90 m, height: 1,96 m) boasts a cargo space of 4,6 m3. All this thanks to the regular shape of the body and the maximum use of space inside. Customers who choose the e-Co-Motion model in the future will be able to build its body in any way. Depending on the needs, the car can become an isotherm or a passenger transport.
