The new Batmobile will be the Dodge Charger from 1968 to 1970.

The new Batman movie is yet to come, and one of the most impressive things to see in the movie will undoubtedly be the new Batmobile. The car was developed on the basis of the second generation Dodge Charger, that is, the 1968-1970 model.

The 2022 Batman movie stars Robert Pattinson, who plays "Bruce Wayne", a retired street racer turned crime fighter. Although barely recognizable, the new Batmobile is a heavily modified second generation Dodge Charger (1968-1970). This is one of the most intimidating Batmobiles in history.

What kind of car is the new Batmobile?

The new Batmobile's lowering widebody kit gives it an oversized Camaro nose and Stingray fenders. But don't let Bruce Wayne's mods fool you: Batman's new car started out as a second generation Dodge Charger (1968-70).

Bruce Wayne attached a smooth body kit to his old Dodge Charger. In addition, he trimmed the trunk to make it a rear-engined car. He also welded the likeness of a ram to the grate. The resulting front of the car leans forward, the tail leans back. The vehicle even ends with two sharp spikes resembling bat wings.

It's almost impossible to see the original car under this new Batmobile. But the corners of the front windshield and the C-pillars are unmistakably MOPAR. And this is one of the few unmodified metal parts left on the car.

Plymouth Barracuda or Dodge Challenger

Also, the angle between the rear fenders and the C-pillar before the standard fenders disappear into wide, flared fenders looks like a Dodge or a Plymouth. Now some have guessed that this is a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. And while the angles may be right, the scale is wrong.

The rear window, still intact behind Batman's seat, is too long for an E-body like the Barracuda. The roofline and rear pillars of the new Batmobile are unmistakably reminiscent of the 1968-1970 Dodge Charger.

Why would Bruce Wayne put Corvette type fenders on the gen Charger?

Well, in the trailer we see him stepping out of a stock Corvette Stingray, so he may have started with a Dodge, but now he's more of a GM fan. Or maybe he just wanted his car to look like a bat.

Why does Batman use the Batmobile?

Bruce Wayne from Matt Reeve's 2022 Batman reboot spent years on the wrong side of the law. He fell in love with an old Dodge Charger, fixed it up and became an amateur street racer. When he turns to masked crime fighting, he turns his favorite car into a Batmobile.

To turn his old Charger into a Batmobile, Bruce Wayne first got rid of everything else. He removed all the seats, except for the driver's (there is no place for Robin). He then converted the car to a rear engine, presumably for better handling.

The new Batmobile looks comfortable on the road and is capable of going off-road, with huge wheels and possibly beadlock rims. While early footage of the Batmobile shows it "crumbled" to the ground, it does have side steps that help Batman get on and off. Hopefully it will have adjustable air suspension like a truck.

Bruce Wayne then welded a massive battering ram to the nose of the new Batmobile, which would be right at home in Mad Max or Death Race. Finally, he fitted the rear engine with a massive ten-to-one exhaust pipe ending in an afterburner.
