New Opel Corsa - these changes were inevitable

In just a few weeks, the sixth generation Corsa will arrive in Opel showrooms. This is revolutionary in that it has already been created under the scrutiny of the PSA. How has this affected the beloved baby of the German brand?

Although the German brand still offers models created under the leadership of General Motors, cooperation with PSA is tightening up, as can be seen, for example, in Corsa latest generation. This is a completely new design based on French solutions, which is associated with its predecessors only by the name and the badge on the grille. But is it wrong? Is it really so bad French technology, which is so criticized by car complainers, repeating banal jokes about F cars?

How has Opel Corsa changed? First, mass

You didn't have to be a top-notch physics student to understand that the light weight of cars has a positive effect on their performance and reduces fuel consumption. Engineers also know this, although many modern cars, like their customers, are quite heavy. While in humans it is usually associated with a sedentary lifestyle, in the automotive industry the reason is the increase in size, safety concerns and the increase in the number of on-board systems over the years.

Opel by GM rule, he had a big problem with being overweight, sometimes he was just a cool fat man. For example, when creating the current generation of Opel Astra, steps aimed at getting rid of extra pounds ended the crisis, but only marriage to a Frenchman changed the situation forever. PSA is at the forefront of building lightweight urban vehicles while maintaining the highest levels of safety. AS WELL AS new opel corsa – as the technical twin of the new Peugeot 208, it makes full use of these advantages.

Length 406 cm. race compared to its predecessor, it grew by 4 cm, its width was 3 cm, and its height decreased by more than 4 cm. How does this relate to weight? Well, the basic versions Corsi E&F differs by 65 kg. Predecessor with 1.2 hp 70 engine. weighed 1045 kg (without driver), and with a 980 hp 1.2 engine. under the hood, the new one weighed an impressive 75 kg. As you might guess, this improved performance by reducing the time needed to accelerate to 100 km / h from a standstill by 2,8 s (an acceptable 13,2 s instead of a shameful 16 s) and reduced the average fuel consumption from 6,5 l / 100 km to 5,3, 100 l/km (both WLTP values).

New Corsa - more power

W new Corsa The power spectrum has also been widened, as - apart from the sporty OPC version - the most powerful unit in the old generation offered 115 hp, and now we can order a 130 hp three-cylinder version of the famous 1.2 engine. Complaints about the latter number are slowly fading away in the face of the fact that four-cylinder units are becoming rare even in the C segment. Opel offers the eight-speed automatic transmission already known from other PSA models, offered as an option in the 100 hp version, and in the top version of the engine it is provided as standard.

The repeatedly announced decline of diesel engines will not come so soon. Opel decided not to abandon this power source and in the proposal Corsi there will be a diesel 1.5 with a capacity of 102 hp. mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Average fuel consumption for this variant is an impressive 4 l/100 km.

The chapter on drive units does not end there. It's already on sale Korsa-e, that is, a fully electric version. It is equipped with a 136 hp engine. The fact is that the curb weight is as much as 1530 kg, but despite this, it can accelerate to hundreds in 8,1 seconds, providing a power reserve of 330 km, which in practice should be enough for about 300 km.

The lower part of the body of the sixth generation Opel Corsa

Opel is another brand that follows market trends. Unfortunately, they turn out to be deadly for three-door models that almost no one buys anymore. Even childless and single people prefer five-door versions. So it is no longer surprising that only in this configuration you can order a new urban baby of the German brand.

The wheelbase has increased by 2,8 cm and now stands at 253,8 cm. How will this affect the space in the car? The front part has a low roof, but even tall people can easily fit here. This is because the chair has been lowered by almost 3 cm. The back is not pink - low roof line Opel Corsa makes us feel uncomfortable when we are about 182 cm tall. There is still plenty of room for knees and feet. The rear seat is, as you'd expect, rigid and lacks an armrest. The trunk has grown from the previous 265 to 309 liters. By exchange Course in a small luggage compartment, we will feel an underestimated body, because the space behind the front seats has decreased from 1090 (for its predecessor) to 1015 liters for the latest generation. In the case of the Corsa-e, the usability of the small hatchback is affected by the 50 kWh batteries. The trunk is smaller here and offers 267 liters.

Smart looking eyes

If you ask what makes Opel different from its western cousins, then you can certainly mention the well-known Astra IntelliLux with headlights. These are matrix headlights with LED technology, offered for the first time in the B segment. The offer will also include "regular" LED headlights - Opel says - at an affordable price.

When buying a modern small city car today, you do not have to make sacrifices. On board Opla Corsa will be among other things Adaptive cruise control. Of course, safety systems are standard today, including blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist. Among the new products, it is worth noting the side assistant, which warns of the danger of rubbing with obstacles. These are a kind of lateral maneuvering (or parking) sensors to avoid collisions with poles, walls, flower pots or lanterns.

Nothing is growing faster in modern cars than multimedia screens. This is no different from new Corsa. In the central part of the dashboard there is room for a 7-inch screen, and in the top version even for a 10-inch Multimedia Navi Pro screen. It offers, among other things, navigation services enriched with information about current traffic or fuel prices at passing stations.

Prices for the new Corso

When we are looking for the cheapest offer on the market, the price list Opa not impressive. The cheapest variety Corsi with the aforementioned 75 hp engine. in the standard version it costs PLN 49. that's 990 more than what's needed for the base model predecessor, but less than the base Peugeot 2 Like, which was priced at PLN 208. This engine is offered in two more trim levels: Edition (PLN 53) and Elegance (PLN 900).

100 horse varieties new Corsa is at least PLN 59 for the Edition version with a manual transmission or PLN 750 for a car. Only available with the 66 horse lazy box. Opel requires PLN 77, but this is already the Elegance version. Both stronger features can also be ordered in the sporty GS-Line variant.

Opel Corsa with a diesel engine starts from the Specification Edition for PLN 65. It can also be ordered in the luxurious Elegance variant (PLN 350) or the sporty GS-Line (PLN 71). However, the most expensive option in the lineup will undoubtedly be the Opel Corsa-e with a price starting from PLN 250, which allows you to receive the planned co-financing for the purchase of an electric car.
