The EQE53 large sedan is Mercedes-AMG's latest all-electric model.

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its next all-electric model, the EQE53 large sedan, which has been confirmed for Australia.

Local launch dates, pricing and specifications are yet to be determined, but the EQE53 really takes the Mercedes-Benz EQE to the next level with a high-performance powertrain and other sporty features.

The highlight, of course, are the twin EQE53 electric motors that are mounted front and rear for fully variable 4Matic+ all-wheel drive and a combined power of 460kW and 950Nm of torque. But the stakes can be raised to an even more ridiculous 505kW/1000Nm with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package installed.

As standard, the EQE53 accelerates from 100 to 3.5 km/h in 220 seconds and reaches a top speed of 3.3 km/h. But with the over-acceleration of the AMG Dynamic Plus package via launch control, it can reach triple digits in just 240 seconds and has a top speed of XNUMX km/h.

It is worth noting that the EQE43 variant will also be available in other markets with its 350kW/858Nm twin-motor powertrain providing 4Matic all-wheel drive, acceleration from 4.2 to 100km/h in 210s, and a top speed of XNUMXkm/h.

By comparison, the "regular" EQE is currently only available in entry-level EQE350 form with a 215kW/530Nm single-engine powertrain in a rear-wheel drive version. It should appear in Australia in the second half of 2022. It should be noted that an all-wheel drive version with a second electric motor, which has yet to be announced, will eventually become available.

But back to the Tesla Model S competing with the EQE53. It has the same 90.6 kWh lithium-ion battery as the EQE350, but offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 518 km, as opposed to the latter's maximum of 660 km. The maximum mileage of the EQE43 is 533 km.

The shared battery supports 170 kW DC fast charging and 22 kW AC charging, with the former capable of extending range by 180 km in just 15 minutes in the EQE53 and EQE43 models. For reference, the EQE350 can travel 250 km in the same period of time.

So what else makes the EQE53 (and EQE43) different from the EQE package? Well, there are four driving modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport and Sport+), an adaptive air suspension sport setting, sport brakes, standard rear wheel steering and space age car sounds inside and out.

And let's not forget the obligatory body kit (including a closed version of the Mercedes-AMG Panamericana signature grille), bespoke 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels, sports steering wheel and front seats, and carbon fiber trim.
