Basically, there is no way to deal with a thief. However, you can prevent him from stealing a car, because every moment of manipulation increases the chance of saving the car.

In modern cars, anti-theft security devices are primarily electronic devices. Nevertheless, car owners opt for mechanical locks.

 There are interlocks that connect the brake and clutch pedals or transmission interlocks that can lock the shift lever outward when reverse gear is engaged or with a special pin inside the tunnel.

The latter type is more efficient, since it is not enough to cut the gear lever to start the car. Insurance companies recognize Box locks as eligible for a rebate on AC insurance. The effectiveness of locks on the steering wheel is weak - it is enough for a thief to cut the steering wheel and he can remove the element preventing it from rotating.

And so we enter the world of electronics. All safety devices offered on the Polish market must have a certificate issued by the Institute of the Automotive Industry. At the same time, PIMOT has developed criteria and issues performance certificates recognized by manufacturers and insurance companies. They are issued for a specific type of device installed in a specific car model. PIMOT has divided devices into four efficiency classes.

Pop-of-the-Pop (POP) security systems are fixed-code, remote-controlled systems with hood and door open sensors that warn with their own siren or car horn.

The standard class car alarm (STD) is controlled by a remote control with a variable code, signals theft attempts with a siren and flashing lights, has at least one engine lock and a sensor that protects the body from burglary.

The professional class system (PRF) has its own (backup) power supply, a coded key or remote control with a variable code, two body burglary protection sensors, blocking at least two electrical circuits responsible for starting the engine. It must also be resistant to electrical and mechanical damage.

A special class (EXTRA) - the upper shelf - the PRF class is supplemented with a vehicle position sensor, an anti-theft function, and radio notification.

A similar division was used in the case of systems that affect the operation of vehicle electronics, i.e. immobilizers and electronic locks.

The POP class is a system with a single blockage, for example from the fuel pump. STD systems are characterized by two locks or one combination lock. The device is resistant to power failures and decoding and has at least 10 thousand codes. Class PRF means three locks or two, but one of them must be coded. Other features include, among others. service mode, resistance to decoding, the impossibility of copying the key. The EXTRA class requires one year of effective use.

The more options and sensors that collect information, the better. You should always remember, among other things, that thieves specialize in certain brands of cars and the security devices installed in car dealerships have already been worked out. It is good to use two ways to protect the car at the same time - for example, mechanical and electronic. A more restful sleep will also be ensured by installing the device at a certified installation company and placing it in an unusual place. We must not forget about insurance - in case of accident, we can return your money.

How not to get robbed

– Do not leave luggage and any items in a visible place, take them with you or lock them in the trunk

– Close doors and windows every time you get out of the car

- Never leave the key in the ignition

– Always take your keys with you, even if you leave your car in the garage

– Keep a close eye on strangers who are interested in your car or the car of your neighbors. They think of stealing it rather than admiring it.

– Do not leave any documents in the car, especially the registration certificate and insurance invoices

– Try to park in protected areas, avoid parking in dark places at night.

– Do not leave luggage on the roof rack

– When buying a car radio, choose one that can be removed before leaving the car.

Security and discounts on AC

Depending on the type of anti-theft systems used, the vehicle owner can count on various discounts when insuring motor hull insurance.

In PZU, a 15% discount is provided if the car is equipped with safety equipment with a higher level of protection (the list is available at PZU SA branches and on the company's website). If it is a special system, the discount can be as high as 40%.

In Warta, the discount for the risk of theft (one of the two components of the AS) is up to 50%. when installing a vehicle monitoring and positioning system.

At Allianz, we will only receive a discount on a GPS system installed in vehicles whose cost does not require the installation of such a system, in accordance with AC's insurance policy. A signed monitoring contract is also required. Then the discount is 20 percent.

The same promotion is available to Hestia customers who have installed a satellite alarm system and a vehicle location system in their car with a paid subscription for the entire insurance period.

You can't count on additional discounts on auto hull insurance to protect against theft, including Link 4 and Generali customers.
