Tesla 2019.16.x update broke my autopilot [review]

An interesting opinion appeared on one of the pages dedicated to Tesla Model 3. After the recent update 2019.16.x, Tesla, which controlled the autopilot, lost the ability to turn almost 90 degrees. She used to slow down, but she had no problem with that.

Mr. Jarek has a Tesla Model S with autopilot in the first version (AP1). He complains that a few days before the update, the autopilot was able to slow down as much as possible and go through an angle of almost 90 degrees (source). Now, despite two updates in recent days - "Firmware Tracker" lists versions 2019.16.1, 2019.16.1.1 and 2019.16.2 - the machine has lost this ability.

The screen displays only the message “Safety / Convenience autopilot functions are not available” followed by “Functions can be restored the next time you drive”. The Internet user emphasizes that he met several similar cases among Model S drivers:

What happened? Probably, we are talking about blocking some of the autopilot capabilities as a result of Tesla's need to adapt to the UN / ECE R79 standard, which sets the maximum lateral acceleration level at 3 m / s.2 and short-term (up to 0,5 seconds) at the level of 5 m / s2 (a source).

Lateral (transverse) acceleration is the result of multiplying the speed of the car by the angle of rotation. Because Tesla can still make sharper turns on autopilot, but will have to slow down even further. – which would be unpleasant for the driver. Apparently, the manufacturer has decided that it prefers to temporarily limit the availability of the feature.

We add that several updates and corrections have already been made to the UN / ECE R79 regulation, therefore, the lateral acceleration values may be increased in the future. This will reinstate the existing autopilot functions in Model S and X and enhance its capabilities in Model 3, which complies with UNECE R79 from the outset.
