Lopper maintenance and care
Content
The maintenance and care steps for the pruner are very simple.
Do not abuse the lopper | |
While it may be tempting to use a lopper for every pruning task you face, loppers are really only good for pruning small to medium diameter branches and stems. Do not use the lopper to cut hedges, mow grass, weed flower beds or cut down apple trees! More suitable tools are available for these tasks.
Sharpen lopper blades as needed
If the sharpened blade of your lopper has dulled or blunted over time, simply file the beveled edge until you are satisfied with the sharpness of the blade. (For a complete guide to sharpening see: How to sharpen lopper blades).
Clean lopper blades after use
Blades and anvils of loppers should be cleaned of plant debris after each use. Do this with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth.
Lubricate lopper blades between uses
When the pruner is not in use, or if it will be stored for a long time, apply a thin coat of oil to the blades. This will prevent rust from atmospheric moisture. |
