Small SUVs are all the rage right now, but it's a confusing category for buyers that is quickly dividing into increasingly niche sub-classes.

For example, the two cars we're reviewing here, the Subaru XV and Ford Puma, technically belong to two different classes, a small SUV and a light SUV, respectively, even though they're pretty close in performance and cost.
