Great Wall Cannon Review 2021: Snapshot

The Great Wall Cannon is the base model of the 2021 GWM Ute line. If this name seems confusing, GWM is the new brand name, Ute is the model, and Cannon is the base variant. But since we know people think this ute is sold by Great Wall, we've included it.

The entry level model has a very competitive price of $33,990. This is for a 4x4 double cab pickup truck with a 2.0L turbodiesel engine (120kW/400Nm) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Claimed fuel consumption is 9.4L/100km.

The load capacity is 1050 kg and the pulling force is 750 kg for a trailer without brakes and 3000 kg for a trailer with brakes.

Standard equipment on the base model Cannon ute is exceptional: LED headlights with LED DRLs and active fog lights, LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, body-colored bumpers, side steps, power mirrors, keyless entry, start button, and antenna type "shark fin" everything is standard.

The five-seater cabin has eco-leather seats, manual air conditioning, carpeting and a polyurethane steering wheel with shift paddles for automatic transmission.

Media is presented in the form of a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the stereo has four speakers and an AM/FM radio. There is a 3.5-inch driver information screen with digital speedometer and trip computer.

The base Cannon model also has a USB outlet for the dash cam, three USB ports and a 12-volt outlet in the rear, as well as directional air vents in the rear seats.

The history of security is strong, with a plethora of technology never before seen in the Great Wall world. There's automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and seven airbags including a front center airbag - it's something we've only seen in the likes of the Mazda BT-50 and Isuzu D-Max.
