2021 Isuzu D-Max LS-M Review: Snapshot

The Isuzu D-Max is all-new, but the second model in the lineup retains a similar position with the LS-M, an all-wheel-drive, double-cab version of the new D-Max that focuses on work.

The LS-M sits above the SX class and is only available in a double cab body style and only in a 4×4/4WD version. You can choose from a six-speed manual transmission (RRP/MSRP: $51,000) or a six-speed automatic (RRP/MSRP: $53,000). Please note that these are list prices excluding travel expenses - there may be deals on the road.

Like all D-Max models, it is equipped with a 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel with an output of 140 kW (at 3600 rpm) and 450 Nm (at 1600-2600 rpm). Load capacity 750 kg without brakes and 3500 kg with brakes. Claimed fuel consumption is 7.7 l/100 km (manual) and 8.0 l/100 km (auto).

LS-M models are based on SX equipment with 17-inch alloy wheels, body-colored door handles and mirror caps, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED front fog lamps. The cabin has a six-speaker audio system, while rear-seat passengers received a USB port.

This is on top of the standard manual air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, automatic wipers, 4.2" customizable driver display, 7.0" multimedia screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, fabric interior trim, rubber flooring, tilt and telescopic multifunction steering wheel and directional air vents in the rear seats.

Plus there are all the safety features: manual LS-M variants lack adaptive cruise control, but LS-M cars get that tech standard while they all have AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assist, monitoring blind spots, rear cross traffic alert, front turn assist, driver assistance, eight airbags including a front center airbag, rear view camera and more.

The D-Max has achieved the highest five-star safety rating in ANCAP crash tests, and is the first commercial vehicle to receive this award under the stricter safety oversight criteria for 2020.
