2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Review: Snapshot

The rugged Rubicon is still the top trim level of the new JL Wrangler lineup, and now the four-door model alone is $1000 more than the equivalent $63,950 Overland.

The Rubicon is equipped with hardcore off-road gear like BF Goodrich off-road tires, a shorter 77.2:1 gearing, locking front and rear diff with stronger axles and anti-roll bar disengagement system, and chunky off-road tires. It also comes with a winch-ready steel front bumper, which the early build examples pictured here don't have.

Rubicon returns to cloth seats but comes with Rubicon hood, strong side steps, special 17" alloy wheels, black hardtop and wheel arches but retains AEB Overland, anchor point monitoring, active cruise control, nine-speaker audio system, LED lanterns. , 230 V inverter, enlarged multimedia screen with satellite navigation, but added off-road pages.

The Rubicon is the only trim level to offer a new 450-litre 2.2 Nm turbodiesel engine as an option. The list price of the V6 petrol version is $63,950, but the diesel version adds a full $5000 to the cost.

The official combined fuel consumption is 7.5 l/100 km for diesel and 10.3 l/100 km for petrol. Those figures are aided by a new eight-speed automatic transmission and the addition of a stop-start system.
