1500 Ram 2021 Warlock Review: Towing Test

In case you're not in the know, the Ram 1500s sold here come left-hand drive and are converted to right-hand drive - also known as "rebuilt" - by American Special Vehicles. The work is done in Melbourne, and for the most part it's very convincing.

There are still some issues, such as the foot-operated parking brake and its odd placement near the doorway, and the fact that the pedals are a bit off in terms of their height (the accelerator is much lower than the brake). But the dashboard looks right, the memory is good, and otherwise there are very few compromises. The only pity is that there is no steering wheel adjustment for reach - I would like to move the steering wheel closer to me.

If you're buying the Crew Cab version of the Ram (as opposed to the Quad Cab, which has a smaller tailgate and padded back seat but gets a longer tub), then you're clearly prioritizing the cab over the cargo.

So it's no surprise that there's plenty of room in the back for a couple of large devices. I'm not particularly large, but at 182 cm (6'0") I had enough room to slip behind the driver's seat (set for me) and be very comfortable. It's also wide enough for three adults, and there are three child seat anchor points, but that's the North American market LATCH system, not ISOFIX.

As you'd expect, there are cup holders in the fold-down armrest, a couple on the floor near the middle seat, and bottle holders in the doors—Americans seem to understand all that "hydration."

The seats have map pockets, as well as rear seat vents, which means those in the back are pretty well catered for.

If power is needed in the second row, there's a 12-volt outlet in the back, but unfortunately this generation of the Ram 1500 lags behind when it comes to device charging points, as there are no USB ports. Guess you could get a 12V USB adapter for kids?

It's a very comfortable seat in the back, and my passengers comment on how spacious it feels in terms of both width and legroom.

They also appreciated the sliding rear window - but it's a pity it's not electric like some of the newer cars.
