Review Renault Kadjar 2020: a shot from life

The Life is the starting point in the Renault Kadjar line of small SUVs with an MSRP of $29,990.

An entry point into the Kadjar lineup with three variants, the Life has a pretty impressive list of specs compared to its Nissan Qashqai cousin with which it shares a chassis.

Renault says the Kadjar is a suitcase of sorts, combining "Kad" for ATV and "jar" for agility to give the impression that this SUV is both practical and sporty.

However, unlike the Qashqai, the Kadjar range is powered by only one engine, a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that Renault co-developed with Mercedes-Benz.

The engine has a competitive power output of 117kW/260Nm and is only mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

There is no manual transmission in the Kadjar range in Australia and no diesel all-wheel drive in Europe. The Kadjar is made in Spain and its 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine is fitted with a timing chain rather than a belt.

The standard specification of the Kadjar Life includes 17-inch alloy wheels (not steel for the Kadjar range), a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster with matrix gauges, and a seven-speaker audio system. , dual-zone climate control with dot-matrix dial displays, manually adjustable cloth seat upholstery, ambient interior lighting, key switch ignition, front and rear parking sensors with rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring, automatic rain-sensing wipers, and automatic halogen lights.

Standard active safety includes automatic emergency braking (AEB - only works at city speeds without detecting pedestrians or cyclists). The Life is equipped with six airbags, as well as the expected stability and brake controls. Kadjar has not yet received an ANCAP rating.

The Kadjar launches alongside Renault's updated ownership program, which includes a five-year warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of limited-price service.

The service interval is 12 months / 30,000 km and the Kadjar range is priced at $399 for the first three services, $789 for the fourth (due to changing spark plugs and other major items), then $399 for the fifth.
