2020 Renault Kadjar review: Intens snapshot

The Intens is the flagship of the Renault Kadjar range, with an MSRP of $37,990.

Although classified as a "small" SUV, the Kadjar sits at the top of the category scale, sharing a chassis and practical dimensions with the Nissan Qashqai. It sits between Captur and Koleos in Renault's SUV range.

The Kadjar is powered exclusively by a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (117 kW/260 Nm) shared with Mercedes-Benz. It's front-wheel drive only via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The manual transmission and all-wheel-drive diesel versions available in Europe will not make it to Down Under. The Kadjar is assembled in Spain and has a timing chain, not a belt.

Standard equipment on the Kadjar Intens includes 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (with Continental ContiSportContact 4 tires), a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and built-in navigation, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and keyless entry. auto entry, fixed panoramic sunroof, electrochromatic door mirrors, Bose premium audio system, power leather seat trim for driver, heated front seats, LED headlights, LED interior lighting, speakerphone, auto parking, auto high beams, door sills with Kadjar logo and additional chrome trim throughout.

Active safety on the Intens remains the same as on the Zen, including Automatic Emergency Braking at City Speed (AEB - no pedestrian or cyclist detection), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM). There is no active cruise control or active highway safety in the Kadjar lineup.

Renault is offering the Kadjar with a new ownership promise that includes five years of warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of service at a limited price.

The service interval is 12 months / 30,000 km and the Kadjar range is priced at $399 for the first three services, $789 for the fourth (due to changing spark plugs and other major items), then $399 for the fifth.
