2021 Skoda Scala review: 110TSI snapshot

The 2021 Skoda Scala hatchback lineup starts with the entry-level 110TSI model.

The 110TSI nameplate is familiar from the Volkswagen world, and under the hood is also a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine made by VW. With 110kW (as the name suggests) and 250Nm of torque, this version of the Scala is available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 

The Scala is a front-wheel drive (FWD/2WD) hatchback with claimed fuel consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers for the mechanical version and 5.5 l/100 km for the automatic version. The engine features start-stop technology, as well as a fuel-saving cylinder deactivation system that allows you to run on two cylinders at light loads.

The price of the 110TSI model depends on the transmission you choose. Skoda has a manual version with a list/MSRP of $27,690, while the dual-clutch car has a list/MSRP of $28,690. Oddly enough, the brand also launched the Scala at an "exit" price - the manual costs $26,990K and the car is $28,990K.

Standard equipment for the 110TSI includes several intriguing features such as 18-inch alloy wheels (spare wheel to save space), power tailgate, halogen headlights, fog lamps, LED rear lighting with dynamic indicators, tinted privacy glass, 8.0 inch touch screen. media system with smartphone mirroring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, 10.25-inch digital instrument display.

The Scala comes with four USB-C ports (2x front/2x rear), red exterior lighting, a covered center armrest, leather steering wheel, manual seat adjustment, tire pressure monitoring, and a "luggage bag" with multiple cargo nets and hooks in the area trunk. Note that the base car does not have a 60:40 folding seatback.

The 110TSI also features a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming, heated and power adjustable side mirrors, driver fatigue detection, lane keeping assist and AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection. There's also a low-speed AEB rear system to help prevent parking bumps.

Several optional packages are available for the 110TSI. A $4300 Driver Assistance Package that adds heated, power-adjustable leather driver seats, climate control, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alert, and an automatic parking system. The Tech Pack ($3900) upgrades the infotainment system to a 9.2-inch navigation box with wireless CarPlay, adds upgraded speakers, and includes full LED headlights as well as keyless entry and push-button start. 

You can also opt for a panoramic glass roof for $1300.
