2021 Skoda Scala review: Launch Edition snapshot

It may have been a delayed launch of the 2021 Skoda Scala range, but the Launch Edition is a worthy celebration of the arrival of the new small hatchback.

The Scala 2021 Launch Edition model has a list price/MSRP of $34,690, but there is a national travel price of $35,990. Note: an earlier version of this story said the exit price was $36,990, but that was a mistake on the part of Skoda Australia.

For this you get a lot of standard equipment - so much so that there are no additional packages that you will find on the base model 110TSI and the sporty versions of the Scala Monte Carlo.

Trying to select Launch Edition from outside? It features body-coloured exterior mirrors, chrome grille and window surrounds, and 18-inch aero-styled wheels in black and silver.

Inside, you'll see leather and Suedia trim, heated front and rear seats, power driver's seat adjustment, a 9.2-inch media system with sat-nav and wireless Apple CarPlay, automatic LED headlights and automatic wipers, and fog lamps. , LED taillights with animated indicators, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a semi-autonomous parking system.

This is more than the standard equipment of the entry-level model, which includes wireless phone charging, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a power tailgate, four USB-C ports (2x front / 2x rear), red ambient lighting, closed center armrest, leather steering wheel, manual seat adjustment, tire pressure monitoring, and a "luggage bag" with several cargo nets and hooks in the trunk.

There’s also dual-zone climate control, smart key unlock (non-contact) and push-button start, as well as Sport Chassis Control’s proprietary setting, a lowered adaptive suspension (15mm) with driving modes.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming, heated and power adjustable side mirrors, driver fatigue detection, lane keeping assist and AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection. There's also a low-speed rear AEB system to stop bumps in the parking lot. And in this trim level, you also get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Launch Edition is powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 110kW/250Nm. It comes standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with front-wheel drive (FWD). Claimed fuel consumption is 5.5 l/100 km.

Oh, there are a few options you can get on the Launch Edition spec: a panoramic glass roof is $1300, there's a tow kit ($1200), and plenty of additional paint options ($550 to $1110).
