He meets a good driver where the straight line ends. Turning around is not as easy as it might seem. Decreasing speed and turning the steering wheel are not the only tasks that the driver has to consider. Smoothness of maneuver is key, and for this you need to feel and skillfully use the pedals.

Spicy or mild

– When we notice a turn in the distance, it is worth looking in the mirrors and looking around in order to have a complete picture of the traffic situation before starting the maneuver. Let's look not only at the turn itself, but also at the road after the turn. We will take into account visibility, the sharpness of the turn, the condition of the road surface and the degree of inclination of the road, as well as how the traffic moves in front of us and behind us, says Zbigniew Veseli, director of the Renault Driving School.

Always stay in your lane. An angular shift can lead to a frontal event. We must also remember to keep our distance from the traffic in front.

Just the right speed

It is safer to enter a turn too slowly than too fast. Making a turn too quickly can force the driver to brake on the turn, which can lead to dangerous situations, especially skidding. If we misjudge speed and the road is slippery, we risk going out of lane and having an accident. To estimate the speed, we need to analyze the information collected while approaching the turn. The tighter the turn and the higher the speed, the more difficult it is to keep the correct track, because a large centrifugal force acts on the machine.

It's never easy

– Don't forget to shift into gear when cornering. Never drive through a turn calmly, because then there is a high risk of losing control of the car, Renault driving school coaches advise.

The engine and wheels are separated when the clutch is depressed, so the drive does not brake them.

“You also have to remember to shift into the correct gear before the turn so you don't enter it with the clutch depressed,” Veseli adds.

It is best to drive the turn as smoothly as possible - skillfully control the gas pedal, avoid sharp pressing or retracting it. It can also cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Always keep both hands on the steering wheel when turning. Finally, I would like to remind you of the words of the famous rally racer Colin McRae: "Straight lines are for fast cars, curves are for fast drivers."
