Dangerous SMS

Dangerous SMS European motorists lose concentration behind the wheel too easily. This is the result of a study commissioned by the Ford Motor Company.

Results of a survey of over 4300 drivers from Spain, Dangerous SMS Italy, France, Germany and the UK confirm that an alarmingly high number of road users put themselves and other road users at risk. The main sins of drivers are talking on a cell phone, eating and drinking while driving, and in some cases even putting on make-up on the road. Interestingly, motorists are aware of their poor driving skills. 62% of respondents admit that they will have problems retaking the driving test.

The latest statistics from the European Union show that in 2009 more than 1,5 million people were injured in road traffic accidents in Europe. Ford commissioned a road safety study to understand the behavior of drivers on the road and to determine which safety features on board a car are most recognized.

The report showed that almost half of German vehicle owners use a mobile phone while driving. The British are more disciplined in this regard - only 6% of respondents make phone calls while driving. On the other hand, 50 percent of the Italians surveyed consider themselves good drivers and do not expect any problems with re-passing the driving test.

Drivers also admitted that they highly appreciated the presence of airbags on board the car (25% of all answers). Technologies that help avoid collisions at low speeds, such as the Ford Active City Stop system, came in second (21%).
